so i have never painted anything on my car or anyones elses car ever. always thought it'd be a fun hobbie to learn and do for fun in my spare time so i decided to start messing around a little bit. i dont know what made me even think of the idea of painting a carbon fiber look but i knew it had been done so a researched it. i find out that its actually a really simple process, just would take some time to get it looking good.
so i decided to give it a shot. now i didnt use auto paint or a spray guy. i just used exrta spray paint that was laying around in the garage since iwas simply testing out the process. the process goes as follows.
1. prime the surface your painting
2. lay down a silver metallic coat (i didnt have silver so i used some gold i had, kinda gives it a carbon kelvar look)
3. lay down some shelf for drawer liner found at wal-mart, lowes, k-mart, ect...
4. take gloss black and spray over the liner to give you the checkered effect.
5. remove the liner and lightly fog over the entire surface with the black to blend it and give it a lighted effect.
6. clear it and buff it if you'd like and your finished.
here is what my finale producted looked like. this was my first attemp at trying it out. i wouldnt want to paint a hood or anything to look like this but maybe something little would look cool. i want to try it a few more time to try and get the technique down and then i have an extra valve cover i want to try this on to see how it will look

now obviously you can tell its not real carbon fiber but it is still a cool effect you might be able to use on something. For example, the demonstration i saw was painted on a computer case and gave it a pretty cool look.
