Well, i'm offically a dumbass, and now scared shitless. I was bored because all my forums are dead, so I decided to clean up my inbox. While doing so, I realized that an email I recived from my bank had a typo in the title, this tickled my senses. I re-opened the email, and clicked the link it directed me to, and realized it linked me to a fake page, I didn't think to check the URL before hand. I searched the email title on google and found out that it was a scam. So I had just submitted my SSN, Account ID, Account Password, CC#, and pin, to someone who wishes to use my information for fraudulant use. I just emailed my bank and notified them, but what I am most concerned about is the fact that I submitted my SSN. There is, as far as I know, nothing I can do about this to protect my ass. I am sooo scared and dissapointed in myself for being so blind. I am usually not a fool when it comes to spam or spoofs, but this one caught me. Not once, but twice, once as "paypal" once as my bank. I have no idea what to do, anyone have any suggestions for me? PLEASE HELP! |

Well you could get lucky and they will never use your info but to be honest it really sounds like you are fucked in the ass repeatedly. I know first hand because my friend has an identity theft problem. I don't care what anyone tells you. There is nothing you can do about it. Unless you find out who stole your info and can prove its them. From the first time they use your info you have 7 years, after that you are fucked. Legally she said you can only go after someone up to 7 years for this for some reason. The worst part is you can not change your soc number, You can add a pin number to it but thats it. The worse part is those peopel can wait 30 years from now and fuck you. I would keep an eye on your bank stuff and any credit cards. If you see anything strange call them up and maybe they can trace where it came from. |

bam, theres lots of things you can do. Your not fucked Tenchu, dont worry. Like Munster said, report it and close your bank account. Reopen another one, elsewhere maybe. Got to the SS Office and report it. I'm sure theres things you can do. Its not like if your ss card gets stolen your fucked for your whole life... |

You guys would be surprised if I told you some of the shit I have seen with this with my friend. Its not as simple as you think. Even if they catch this guy its not like they are going to give him life in prison. Said above about what can they do with a soc number. You can do just about anthing with it. This is why its called identity theft. That person can become you and take out credit cards, passports, loans anthing really. I doubt anything will happen with this because it sounds more or less a program to get mulitple people but if this person was looking for like a few people it would be looking bad. My friend gets bills from years ago for like 5-60 grand at a time constantly. Like I said i doubt anything will happen with him but I think a lot of you don't realize how easy it is to do some of this shit. |
