They've been doing that on trucks forever, but I can see it hurting spool tremendously.

I'd like to see an all-other-factors-equal comparison dyno between that and a more traditional layout, I bet the traditional setup spools way faster.

there is a guy around here that has that same setup on a yellow F-Body. but his exauhst piping isnt all shity kink bent and clamped. man his looks horrible.

its kinda a cool theory, but to me just doesnt seem practical

they work pretty well on large displacement applications where the engine can spool the turbo (even a rather large one) without any difficulty...

they even have some uses in smaller displacement engines that just don't have the ROOM for a conventional setup

Of course a conventional setup is a more practical in most applications, there are advantages to this type of setup (when properly executed of course) in the right setup however

-less underhood heat from the turbo

-retention of stock exhaust manifold/header designs in applications like v6's/v8's that pose issues with traditional single turbo applications

-low cost

-easy install

there are obvious disadvantages also

-slower spool on smaller engines

-higher throttled volume and increased pressure drop

- location of turbo necessitates need to actually PUMP oil from the turbo oil drain back to the oil pan
