I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

anyone running HIDs w/o projectors?

Post by .saint » June 22, 2009

just curious if any of you 96-00 honda guys are running HID's without a retrofit or aftermarket projector lamps?

i was going to go with a set of HIDs for my car and i would like to order them up before i get to nutso with the headlight harness but i hear horror stories about the beam blinding other drivers?

i heard you can use a casper shield then use a different kit other then the h4's but i dont know. i rarely drive my civic, when i do drive it, its to and from a show and probably beaver run in pittsburgh when i get it all set up for road racing (hopefully)

i want to get an exotic look with the purple hid's, any input would be good.

I was gonna do your everyday plug and play HID setup...but im tooo afraid i would damage my CTR housings.

Ive heard stories that they fade the housing on the CTR's for some reason.

In for more info.

i thought it was odd too.

I heard that HIDs run cooler than the normal halogen bulb...but im not too big into the lighting area....so not too sure.

im completely ok with my Sylvania SilverStars...lol

umm... i have a set of Xenon HIDs in my CTRs and i dont see anything like that... im also running the 8k setup. been like this for about 4 months i think? i drive home at night so i use them almost everyday and i havent seen any fading. they dont have high beams either. i dont think they run cooler either. i the only reason i have them is a spent $10 on a raffle during a car meet at a local shop and won them.
I drive a Honda シビック クーペ

so they are not the bi-xeon eh. i was looking into the bi's so my highs work along with the lows.

thats good to know though, how is the beam? i heard its really scattered.

i dont know i dont have a high beam lol if any thing i would think the high beam would be the one that would melt or mess with the housings since the lights have to burn brighter for them. honestly the normal beams are much brighter then my Halogen high beams. so i dont feel i need it.

I have 6k in mine. I like them, much better then standard bulbs.

As far as the beam goes, my first set had a beam that was angled up higher and i was always getting high beamed by people. i traded sets with jude when he was doing frank the tank and the one i got from him are much better as far as the beam goes. I'm never getting high beamed any more, but even when i was i didnt care :P

should be ok though. not real sure about the whole fading situation. My housings are fine but i only have low beams so its not as hot as it would be if i had high beams as well

Yeah as far as the scattered beam it all seems to matter on the brand instead of the housing.. Theres a guy on H-T/Scion-Life called Operatic that sells HID kits and he has a bunch of pics from different customer cars and shows how to light projects onto the road/other cars. They all look pretty good in pics. He runs an EK too.
