Post subject:  Caliper Rubbing Alloy Wheel
Just put my new wheels onto my Honda Civic Coupe 1.6 lsi 1997.

All the wheels went on perfectly. Drove around the corner and noticed a rubbing noise. Pulled over and noticed that my brake calipers where rubbing against the inside of the alloy wheel.

My existing wheels are 17 inch and replaced them also with 17 inch. And even the same tyre size 205/40/17.

Please see below the grooved out alloy wheels.

What can I do?

first off your rim off-set isnt right so if you plan on keeping those rims get some spacers and use those to get the off-set needed so they stop rubbing. if you dont care about those rims in particular then get another set with a different off-set... either way getting some spacers is cheaper

what is the correct offset?

Offset may be correct and spoke design is causing failure here. A spacer would probably solve the problem, but then you have to worry about (possibly) longer studs and the damage you've already done to your calipers. Slowly turn your wheels through their full rotation to check for any interferences before cruising around on them due to this potential problem.

Just bought some 5mm spacer.

Fitted them on.. and the wheels do clear the brake calipers... Which is great.

But the problem is that the spacer itself, are touching against the wall of the brake calipers...

Are there any smaller spacers?

Measure the diameter of the spacer, and buy a smaller diameter one. I would imagine that the spacer you bought wasn't exactly intended for your application. :wink:

Gettin' there though, glad to see you like the wheels enough to work for fitment. How's the 5mm affecting the flushness with the fender?

Im still sticking with it.... they do come out a bit when looking straight from the front... I'll try to get some pictures
