I read somewhere that if, for example, you swap a b18 into a hatch, then you can get documentation from a mecahnic from a honda dealership that the mileage shown on the cluster is insignificant due to the fact that it doesn't truly represent the mileage of the motor. Is there anything true about this?
the reason i ask is because this 99 dx i'm looking at has 80k miles but if i can get documentation saying it doesn't mean anything once the motor is swapped, i'll have an easier time getting my dad to give me the title for my car so i can buy the car and motor, if not i'll have to be on the hunt for a low mileage 99/00 hatchback
thanks
I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain
question about swaps and mileage
Not sure about the documentation. I guess you would have to get it documented prior to the swap then take it back. *shrug* I didn't bother when I swapped mine.
Since you're in Duncansville there's a good salvage yard in Somerset. The guy is great to deal with. Hooks you up with EVERYTHING you need for the swap for a good price. That's where I got my Bseries.

hmm i might have to go check it out sometime ... even if i can't find a motor I want, I'm sure i can scrap up some junk for friends.
I'm not really worried about mileage on the car - in fact I could care less. I'll be swapping the cluster out anyway ... but my dad's being kinda queer about me buying a car with high miles. I try telling him that everything that the mileage effects will be gone pretty much, but he still shakes his head in disgust. And even though I'm paying for the car, I still have to get something he approves of because HE holds the title of my car now, HE is cosigning for the loan, and HE is gonna be on the title for the new one for a few years for insurance purposes ... I did find a 40k CX in VA or MD for 5900, but he's being weird about buying out of state too ... parents

as for documentation... the title is branded tmu (total milage unknown) any time you change cluster or engine and report it.
the yard munster is talking about is a great place to get swaps from. i've been dealing with them for years. i saved munster about 400 on his swap. if you need a complete swap from a wreck and can show me the money, i'll have it in no time. i had munster's in less than a week.
