I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

stock LS rods n CTR pistons

Post by ismytaillightout » October 07, 2005

would anyone sugest using stock LS rods wit CTR pistons if ur compression was around 12.3-12.5:1 on a ls/vtec setup? Do you think i would run into any problems? also the rods don't fit in the pistons should i get them machined down to fit (about 2mm off the rods) or just get neww pistons and if yes can anyone tell me where i can find sum rods that fit JDM ctr pistons that aren't that don't cost a arm and a leg?

thanks
1EMS....one exit sweep, after dat don't waste my time...

I dont think that CTR pistons would fit the b18 block, they would be a much smaller bore than the stock block.. Your taking pistons out of a 1.6l block and trying to throw them into a 1.8L block. I cant see how that would work.

They are both 81mm bore, the displacement comes from deck height, you would have to get the rods machined. Why are you doing this??? What is your goal??

correct about the bore, however the displacement does not come from the deck height, it comes from the stroke, rod length, and a few other determining factors. Case and point is that the B20 has the same deck height as the b18a/b, but a larger bore. the b16a and the b17a also have the same deck height

So you are saying the B16 and B18 have the same deck height...... 7mm diff

If you wanna get technical, yes it also depends on the rod/stroke ratio being longer in the B18

no, i didnt say that, but also if you notice the b16B and the B18C have the same deck height, so in that case YES they do have the same deck height

temp said the b16a and b17a have the same deck height, but that the B20 has the same deck height as the B18A/B (LS).

And yes for those of you who aren't aware the B16B is a de-stroked B18C :)
