Post subject:  lets talk about BFG Drag Radials
Soooo for some reason i blow through drag radial like it's no ones business. I've had a set on for ehhhh 4 weeks now. Bought them brand new just got my car tuned and what not. Granted the first 2-3 days i beat the piss out of the car but since then its just been normal driving i'll give her her hell here and there but nothing too crazy. I cant see spending the money on them anymore but they seem like the only decent tire for traction on the street/strip. I'm really debating on just running regular street tires and just getting slicks for the track. Money doesn't grow on trees around here. I'm just curious if anyone has had the same problem as me. Tires have never seen any track time and it's daily driven all day everyday. I know peeps on here run them so post up your tires sizes/hp and torque #'s/camber kits/traction issues/tire wear/tire pressure/yada yada yada anything at all that would help explain my problem.

no traction at all in first, 2nd hooks till about 5,000, dead hooks in 3rd...though it seems
lasted 4 weeks :(

i would say try a different place that you got it aligned at... some places only do the 'make the wheel straight and let her go' method of alignment.

I don't have any suggestions other than that.

~400whp ~280tq
tire pressure: 25ish psi for daily driving, 15ish if i needed it on the street.
no camber kit, no alignment, not lowered as much as you, but enough that lock to lock hit the fenders with the radials.
no traction in first, some traction in 2nd depending on the conditions, dead hooks in 3rd .... tires lasted longer than my motors did ;)

honestly tho ... my tires saw all kinds of hellish rips through the street. Launches, burnouts from time to time, and lots of 1st and 2nd gear hell giving and they showed no signs of wear .. or at least no where near as much as yours do (and i tend to check up on your tires from time to time just to see).

I say your best bet is to find a good street tire ... and pick up some bias ply radials or slicks for the track. Take these bfgs and throw them in the trash. The bias plys won't last long either, but they'll be a world of difference compared to the bfg's at the track, last longer than slicks and you're not daily driving them anyway.... plus they're still DOT so if the time comes you can blow em on and spank some choads.

also - for everyone else that has a suggestion, i don't really think it's a camber issue ... because it's the whole tire that wears quickly ... although the insides do wear a bit quicker, it's nothing significant.

i dont think its camber either. last year it was...the metal treads were showing on the inside of the tire but i had tread on the outside. This year i have tread on either side of the tire its just down the middle it's bald as a babys pussy.

also - if it's right down the middle, maybe you're running too much pressure..

regardless it shouldn't be chewing through them as fast as it is, but too much pressure will cause uneven wear just as too little will.

The rubber on the BFG's is a real soft compound, much softer then most tires, so you wont get near the life out of them that you would a normal street tire. Miyagi is right about the tire pressure, too much and you get a bald patch in the middle, not enough and you get it on the edges.

he goes through them WAY faster than he should though. They definately wear a lot faster than normal - but his wear at least twice as fast as mine do.

In fact - at one point when our cars were both running and had bfg's last year ... mine already had a good 1000 or so miles on them by the time his were first mounted ... and he had to get a new set before i even thought about it... we both do roughly the same amount of daily driving and give about equal hell.

I'm pretty sure he's gone though like 3 or 4 sets of radials already... way less than 10,000 miles total... at least one set never saw the track, a burnout, or a launch.

Take your car to another alignment shop. If its off it will also slow your car down and show less HP on the dyno.

Your toe could be out too. How many miles do you put on your car in a month?

Mine wore perfect. Right now my alignment is out, but I also haven't driven it.
