I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Exhaust setups....

Post by domoMKIV » February 03, 2003

So in the near future im'a be swapping a B16 into my 97 CX.

since ill be in SoCal....id like to keep my exhaust quiet cuz the cops are killin the kids with the loud shit.

i want a muffler like the Apexi N1/5Zigen Fireball.....but they are loud, would a premuffler or silencer make a big difference in the sound? putting the silencer in the tip of the muffler is out of the question cuz it looks horrendous.

OR!
keep the muffler i have, just add a premuffler/silencer in the midpipe, until i have to swap it all out when i toss the turbo on.

i wont be putting the turbo on for a while though, and id kind of like to swap out my current exhaust.

suggestions are appreciated. thx.

try a baffle inside the pipe but im not sure if that will do much cause of the fact its going through the chamber in the exhaust is where it picks up the sound. im not sure how it all works but something ill keep an eye out for. i heard the exhaust noise thing is gonna be heading this way soon too. i might have to get a ctr catback. dunno.

try lookin into a greddy they are one of the quietest aftermarket mufflers around at like 88/89 dB i think and if u plan on forced induction u would already have the exhaust setup for it.

I have a 5zigen fireball on a 98 HB with a 4-1 header and no cat. My car still isn't as loud as some of the others that I've heard around town. There's no annoying rasp. That'll definitely change when I swap and have the DOHC scream going on, but anyways...just so you know that the 5zigens really aren't that loud. Racing Medallions are another story.

dont want a full catback system though.

yah i know the 5Zigens arent too loud but....the thing that sucks is their bends. over the rear control arm AND still angles out. too many bends.

I dont know if the 'ES Oval mufflers are loud or quiet, but I like how they look, only 100 bucks on http://www.inlinefour.com too. I want 2.5" piping, I'd like to have the Mugen twin loop but I don't know... kinda pricey

and yea... they're getting pretty anal about the noise, my friend has no exhuast at all, just hangs his muffler there. it's so damn loud, little turbo'd EG sounds like a damn diesel

That's too bad dude.
Because my GReddy SP is one of the quietest, deepest, and best sounding exhausts I've ever heard.
I love it!!!
