Post subject:  locking FOR SALE forum threads?

i saw this on another forum and i kind of liked the idea but im not sure it would work here?

you can post for sale items in the for sale thread but they removed the ability to reply to the thread and they kept all replying to a thread VIA PM's or Email.

not sure how that would go here? bumping a thread would require you to use the phpBB bump feature at the very bottom of the page. and the bump limit could be set via my admin panel would limit the amount of bumping you could do via time or days.

i could leave the vendor section replyable that way vendors can post back and forth to the members but the other for sale/want to buy forums i could lock the replies.

suggestion? just leave it? or possibly try it and see what happens? i know there isn't a lot of selling and transactions going on around here so it really wouldn't hurt anything at the moment.

maybe this is something that needs posted globally to all the members, just want some feedback from you mods.

A lot of the time replies such as "where are you located?" and "what year is this for?" and such can be posted as comments so that everyone can see the answer. If it was all down to PMs and email the seller might have to answer those questions over and over. Motivation for the seller to make a comprehensive post, yes, but also if the questions and answers are public then it can be monitored and possibly prevent someone being ripped off or buying the wrong part for their car.

truth. the descriptions and things would have to be on point. or edited a lot.

I like the lock and edit method.
Something that probably doesn't exist but would be great would be a "vouch" feature for users. Like we have our friend/foe function, you could elect a member as vouchable.

no idea really. i would be extremely annoyed if i was selling something and 40 different people sent pms on the same question... but im the type that if im asked more then once ill edit the thread to reflect the answer.

Yes, that would force the seller to visit the site more, too.

im adding an itrader feature. basically its a feedback system like we had on V2. works the same way as ebay's feedback.

im going to open this topic/discussion to the entire boards. just to get feedback from everyone.

i like the itrader rating and I think locking the threads is actually a good idea it may keep some of the newer members around since they would have to log in to check pm's and they actually get to one some of the members a little better for some encouragement to stick around... this in turn may give you guys a better chance at getting the premium member thing you had discussed going in the right direction too... but that's just my $0.02
