I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

phpbb3 RC vs. vBulletin

Post by .saint » November 28, 2007

alright i know we went through the change to vBulletin from phpbb. it was a nightmare at first but everyone ended up liking the new change and the new software. well im here to make nightmares again, well atleast make you think about them.

phpbb jut released the new phpbb3 rc. and wow it looks like impressive software! they are rebuilding the phpbbgarage and alot of new hacks are being developed everyday. the new phpbb3 software is also very good at tracking spam and spybots.

anyways i came across a demo of the new phpbbgarage for the phpbb3 software, check it out. also look around at the new phpbb3 forums and let me know what you think?

im thinking if i DO decided to go back to the free forums the vBulletin license we have could be sold or something done with it. it wasnt cheap and i would hate to see it go to waist. but vBulletin wants you to pay every year for the software updates and thats out of pocket money munster and i are paying to keep the site up and running.

again this is just a suggestion, please take a few minutes and check out the new software and gimmie some feedback. personally i LOVE the new look and software. the admin control panel (acp) for my sake is incredibly simple and they really did a great job on sorting and making it user friendly.

i was also looking into adding a few vB features to the phpbb if i was to switch, for example the drop down menu's are a super nice feature. vB uses a system called AJAX that could probably be mimic'd into phpbb.

i might install a copy of phpbb3 on the server and have a few people beta test it and let me know what they think of the software. i would really like to check it out first hand for myself just to see if the hype im making it is true.

It looks nice. I wasn't able to really check anything out with the forum itself aside from viewing a few posts by the admin.

I did check out the garage, and I think it has a lot of the same great features and more. I especially liked when I was trying to check out 1/4 mile times and dyno runs and it said that I couldn't access it due to my level. Also nice was just the "quick buttons" where they're all in a row and you can get a quick glance at what each option holds.

I'm happy with the board now, I was happy in the past. You guys seem to know what's best ;)

i cant say that phpbb3 is better and i cant say its worse. but... its free and the new software is really really easy and smooth. you dont have to drop hundreds of dollars a year on the software to keep it updated either.

as of right now its in beta. im actually running a copy of it on my server now checking it out but im not going to take it live. they are working on a vB > php3 converter so u can keep all the posts and members instead of starting from scratch. im going to keep this version running on the server untill a stable release comes out. atleast this way i can see what kind of bots and spyware if any inhabit the boards. if so then i can can the idea and just roll with what we got.

munster when you read this.. chime in.

i do have a working version of phpbb3 RC uploaded and running on the server but im not going to publish it live. its a beta version of the software.

if you would like to sample the software send me a PM i can link you, you can make a username and password and check it out OR i have setup a test account you can log in with and play around with that.

please note that since this is a BETA version of the software expect some bugs and since i am playing around with the software you might find the board being re-installed so im able to start fresh with a clean slate.

also posting is enabled on the new software BUT its only a test board, posts will be deleted, moved, edited, and so on durring the beta testing!! so if you plan on posting, post something NON-USEFULL and possibly in the wrong forum so i can check out the features.

if you are interested in checking out the software PM me

also note. if you are a current board mod and beta test the new software with a new username (instead of the created test name) i will grant you moderator access to play around with the new control panel and settings.

I really like it! I made one post, but oh well. I'm going to mess around with it a bit more, make some non-useful posts ;)

But overall, I dig the layout, seems to be some easy navigation, and its a bit different, which is very cool

I'm down with that. The reason we went vbulletin was stability and ease of updates/corrections.

If phpbb3 can provide that for free...That's a plus for them.

PM me the info. I'll check it out.
