hey guys, i know very little about toyota and what swaps into what so hopefully someone here can help. my dad has a 95 4 wheel drive toyota pickup with the 22RE in it. the truck has 390,000 miles on it and the engine is getting pretty tired and worn out. i was checking the JDM importers for a replacement but they all say that they dont have access to this engine. i have a friend that has a (93...i think) MR2 2.0 motor that we can get for pretty cheap and he says he thinks it's the same block and will work as a replacement but isnt deffinite. my questions to you guys is, would this MR2 motor bolt up in the pickup? would it be worth doing power wise (not looking to make it a racer, just want replacement without losing power)? are there any other engines that could be swapped into this pickup easily (again, doesnt have to be high HP, just dont want to lose power) ? i greatly appreciate any info that you guys can share with me. thanks in advance Rodney |

why are you looking at jdm importers for a engine that you could get from a junk yard? |

well i can get a rebuilt engine shipped to the door for $1200-$1300, no miles on it. junkyards are asking anywhere from $1700-$2300 for this engine with anywhere between 70,000-150,000 miles on them. usually you can get a JDM engine with 30,000-40,000 miles on it for like $600 (assuming it to be equilavent to honda's ZC or D series engines). where's the logic? my first choice would be the JDM (which they say doesnt exist and a few extra ponies wouldnt hurt enven though not a must have.) and then a new rebuilt unit. no way in hell a used engine is worth more than a rebuilt so the junkyard is out of the question. anyway, anyone know about the MR2 engine or any others that will work? i tried talking him into doing the small block chevy but he is as much anti-american car as i am. thanks Rodney |
