I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Gas cap emissions test.

Post by munster » November 01, 2003

I was wondering if any of you people that have to go through emissions testing could answer me something...

The county that I live in currently doesn't have any emissions testing other than a visual (which I still don't pass). Anyways, they just passed legislation involving the gas cap test. What does this test involve and what are they really looking for? The only emissions test I was aware of was the idle/sniffer test in the exhaust.

I'm just curious because as soon as I get my motor into my car I was going to get a punched cat just to pass the visual inspection. This gas cap test had me confused.

thats most likely to check if your gas cap sufficiently covers the fumes emitted...

heh they are going to do testing of the exhuast system, it wouldnt be as intense as cali probably (maybe randy could explain better) but I do believe they will check exhaust/smog emissions soon here in PA.

they used to do that here in miami a couple of yrs ago.. but after like 5 or 10 yrs of doing they saw that emissions didnt go lower or anything so they cut that.. so now you can pretty much run whatever you got w/o a problem.. ofcourse if your car is smoking like crazy and such teh cops will stop you

I'm just going to pick up a Carsound cat...that way they can't look under it and rape me if I'd happen to get pulled over. At least it would pass a visual.

That's just the first "cat" company I have seen around alot. That's the reason I was going with one of those. Any other ideas?

gas cap tests make sures that teh cap seals tight. kinda liek checking a radiator cap- but only for gas.

emissions is easy to beat. the visual is the hardest. emissions only has to pass on the roller. i lean my car out to where it almost dont run. even w/ no cat, it passes.

when they put in the new testing system- modding anything obd2 is fucked. Plugs right into the obd port and scans the car. looks liek alot of obd2 cars will be buying a second speedometer and swapping clusters under 5k miles.

Ok. I wasn't sure if that gas cap test was seriously worth the time or the buzz the media here is creating over it.

As far as my car...I'll be alright as long as no one flips shit over the fact that it's OBD2 -> OBD1.
