I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Why do YOU build your car?

Post by munster » November 05, 2004

Exactly like the subject asks...why do you build your car? We've all heard the "why jdm?" questions.

I seriously build my car as a time killer and a hobby. I love the hunt of trying to find hard-to-find parts, but I also love the constant tinkering with things here and there. I have a thrill obsession too...with anything I do. Bikes, cars, bmx, etc. That's why I want it faster.

I did it jdm because of the thrill of the hunt (like building a classic and finding oem chrome in some barn), how clean it looks, and how well stuff fits.

Why do you guys do it?

me? I dunno...
I always wanted a CRX.. love the design... always have, and most likely always will...

because I finally bought one, I started checking out the web, started going to clubmeetings, shit like that...

and I saw some amazing cars, met great and crazy people...

combination of shit got me hooked... at first I wanted extreme looks.. even fab up my own front bumper, as there's not too much aftermarket for the "jdm front end"...

this shit went on for ages, but me beeing broke all the time (I was in college) nothing really happened...

then I bought my first strut bar... fuck what a difference! and right then and there, I got hooked... hooked on FUNCTION OVER FORM... not anything else... JDM parts are just nice extras, I've begun liking detail-modding... small shit only ppl who know their shit can see... besides... that stuff is less expensive around here than all the extreme bodykits etc...

sooooo

jdm is nothing to me... not really... function over form is my main priority and looks are second... i just want my car to look nice, and parts should fit like a motherfucker... i hate uneven gaps etc... makes me feel as if i drive some shabby ghetto ass broken down... well you get the idea...

and to keep it short: that means I'm into (almost) JDM...

so summary: got in the scene by simple interest and the rest grew from there...

My reasons for doing it are simple............... i love the Jdm scene and the quality of some of the finished products that i have come across! For example For Hybrids EK Hatch, ekfours hatch and Jdm_EG6's hatch to name just a few!! Plus i do it to bug the Ricers over here who see a Jdm car as a waste cos they dont know any better!! 8)

A couple of reasons, but it boils down to my trying to create the most enjoyable driving experience (like a go-kart) possible while maintaining things like AC and a roof. SCCA CSP class is my current level of restrictions, that and money of course, once I conquer CSP I may move back up to SM2 (where I was with the CRX). We'll see, there is a swap in the near future and FI later down the line.

I guess to set myself apart... i guess i could save all my money and drive a POS and say that i dont give a fuck about having a shitty car, but i like the attention i get from having something that others dont. Also something to do, i aint into any sports, music, etc.

well im into other forms of car hobbing, streetrod/hotrods.. i go to alot of events in the us for that and the integra was bought as an everyday car but. the culture grew on me alot so i kind of balance myself between cultures and love the jdm/import scene alot.
