Post subject:  Titling, registering and insuring a RHD car...

...can anyone help with any specifics on how to go about, or where to go about taking care of titling, registering, and insuring a RHD car?

I know there are a few posters here that have done this, and I am sure there are others that just have the knowledge.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

i know its different in canada...

all i have to do once i get my car is get an out of province inspection, same as if i was buying any other car out of province, and once it passes straight up, or i fix whatever needs to be fixed.. i go to our insurance company, and register it as any other 1990 crx would.

Alright. Well I am going to contact TxDot (Texas Department of Transportation) and see what their instructions are.

I posted this without contacting them first because, well it was quite late, and needless to say we all know the hours of the state. :P

Anyways, I am still eager to hear from you if you have titled, registered and insured a RHD car...in the US.

Thanks.

Well I didn't end up calling. I wanted to get the info before buying a RHD car, but what I was looking at sold. And that one just kind of appeared and I was going to buy it on impulse...but it would have set me back a little and wouldn't allow me to take care of other things.

Here you go. I just bought the latest issue of Import Tuner, and they have an article on this very topic.

List of eligible cars and registered importers:
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/rules/import
*note: if the car that you want to import is not on the list then you have to provide crash test results and dismantle a car to compare it to its US equivalent if there is one.

EPA Importation Regulations:

Is it differant for converting an LHD car to RHD? I've been told there will be problems by some, and that there are no problems by others.
