The company pays U.S. hourly workers around $75 an hour in wages and benefits.
The world's largest automaker has been losing U.S. market share but is saddled with labor agreements that make it difficult to close plants or cut workers.
I realize that unions are in place to insure the safety, compensation, and rights of employees. This is a situation where unions have to realize that there are no employees to protect if there's no jobs for them. There's obviously no escape clause written into the agreements. "You will provide safe high-paying jobs for all union members until your company is no longer gasping for air."
