*stole idea from HT thread 'giving respect'*

Take a minute or two to reflect upon who has influenced you most or have been an inspiration to you in the sport compact scene. Whether it's friends, mechanics, shop owners, shops, teams, crews, or whoever. Get some pics up if you've got them too.

I know there are not too many members from the central valley of California, but I'd like the pay my dues...

Maybe not known by many, but Vernon Brunges and his wife Patti from RaVer Motorsports are definetly #1 in my life as far as the scene goes. I grew up in the central valley where imports were rare in the clean form. I wouldn't have half as much knowledge of Honda's as I do now, and they've both helped me grow a lot in this life encompassing hobby of mine. From letting me sit in the office for hours pounding them with questions, to letting me watch over Verns shoulder while he worked on my car and others, letting me help on some customer cars, and taking me out for sushi all those times

Since I've moved out to So-Cal, I don't have a 'shop' to go to now where I know the owners on a first name basis. When you leave something that good, you learn to appreciate it more. From the first day I called Patti at RaVer, because I saw them in the phone book and wanted to lower my car, I was hooked on Hondas, and I knew when they re-did my entire drop for free because I didn't think it was low enough, I knew that RaVer was special. When I say Vernon knows his shit, he knows his shit. I can't think of anyone as dedicated to Honda engine mechanics/tuning as Vern was, and still is. I've spent countless hours in the shop talking to Vern about Honda mechanics and likewise with Patti, and many classes were ditched in the process haha. I've met many friends, and had my fair share of drama with the loss of friends in racing, and squabbles at the shop, but all in all I wouldn't trade my experience for anything.

Thanks to the people that have helped me along the way I can call myself a true enthusiast, I try to keep my shit talking to a minimum and encourage people with constructive criticism whenever I can, instead of putting them down. I owe a lot of this to Vernon and Patti, Kirk, Travis, Tim, Ernie, Shawn, and all the others ...I still owe Vern money for tuning though haha.

Unfortunatly, RaVer MS is not in business at the moment, but still open on select days when Vern wants to do the 'fun' stuff - tuning, swaps, and turbo installs. Verns gone back to school to be a nurse, like his wife. RaVer Motorsports was the shop EVERYONE went to to get stuff FIXED because other shops fucked it up. Vernon was the fucking man, and unfortunatly people in the valley don't want to pay the price for profesional, quality work.

Not sure if you guys remember a while ago I posted the WORLDS fastest stock bodied 300zx, well...Vern built that engine and many other excellent ones. He was even featured in an Option Magazine hahaha....He deserves the credit he doesn't get.

And if it wasn't for Bennett (Bzaster) here down south, I don't know who I'd talk to and work on cars with. I'd be a fucking loner and make Anny work with me on everything...

Sorry for the long post - just thought I'd give credit where it was due....post up guys, im sure you have inspiration from somewhere!

heres some old shop pics, and a pic of kirks old b20 race engine

old-school tuning on the lift

I didnt even kno him, and i meet him at a drift event hours away from my house. Since that day, i have listened to everyhtng he says, and changed my entire look on cars.

DOnt think im ghey or soemthing like that for throwing up props to a member of this board. Just wanted to say thanks eric, i owe u alot!

alright, so when i was 8 years old in 94' my uncle bought a new car. it was a 93' Mazda RX-7, R1 (yea, twin turbo, 175 top speed and all that good stuff) red with black interior and the black suede recaro buckets. it was left over at a dealership in pittsburgh, in the showroom the whole time. he was just getting out of med school at the time and had some money to work with, so thats what he got. excellent choice unc. so anyway, acouple days after he got it, he took me for a ride. we went out on a highway near my town and were just driving casually. once he got to a place where he knew he was clear, he punched it. i'd never felt anything like it. the raw feeling of being slammed into your seat hitting 100 had me hooked. up until that point i always like cars as a kid, but that pushed me to be an enthusiast. it made me a devoted import fan as i grew up, knowing in the back of my head what an incredibly engineered performance car can do.

the other big contributor in my life was my long time friend and current boss, tushar ghate. he lived 3 houses up from me in my neighborhood and was always into imports too. 5 years ago he opened up a performance shop: Maximum Velocity. so when i turned 16 and got my first car (00' mitsubishi mirage haha) i was always around his shop. when i turned 18 i got a new car. and my current car, a nissan 240sx. and even bigger, tushar gave me the opportunity to come and work for him at his shop. so because of him, for the last 4 years, i've been able to be in and around imports. we go to carshows and stuff all the time, and over the years i've helped him build up what now is his company show car (00' eclipse). he's been like a big brother to me and i know i wouldn't be where i am today without his help and support.
there have definately been others along the way, but those two are the biggest. So because of all this i'm moving to california for school (going for automotive design) and then to pursue a career in the automotive industry, designing cars/performance parts. should be a good time, and thanks to everyone who's helped me to get here. like banzai said, sorry for the lengthy post, but thats the story.

Doctor H is the man. And this is what got me into cars: Image Doctor H's '95 4dr w/H22a swap. Before that swap I knew nothing about cars, literally, Ididn't know how to do an oil change or even take off a tire. I hated cars with a passion, but I guess that's because I owned a '90 Olds cutlass POS at the time. But I was over there almost every day helping where I could; pass tools, looking for info online, etc. And he always took the time to answer my questions ("wtf are those pipes coming off the from of the engine?"). The more I learned, the more I was hooked. Solds the Olds and bought a EH2 CX.

My Dad, who always supported me and my racing and who himself helped convince the SCCA that autocrossing was something they should take a look at. (back in the '70s autoX was not recognized as legitimate motorsport by the SCCA).

Dave Coleman, who continues to fascinate me with engineering lingo translated into plain english.

i cant remember who got me started in the scene and it dont really matter to me as long as im here.. but what drives me to push it more and harder in the scene is you guys here at thejdm... without you pushing me to build goldy she wouldnt be where she is today. so everyone pat yourself on the back then punch yourself in the nuts (from me, for making me blow thousands) but seriously without you guys my car wouldnt be half as nice. pushing me to purchase this and do this instead of that. i thank you.

also munster for steering me into the 'stock' direction. i dont know when i fell into the whole 'jdm' crazy but i know i was around this whore jdm scene before it blew up to what it is today. munster and i both kind of jumped into it at the same time.

also matt @ icb motorsports i put a ton of props with him.
