See-through" tire Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires. They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.
These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon. The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires. This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology: a. no more air valves b. no more air compressors at gas stations c. no more repair kits SCAN DOWN & SEE. These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin. It will be a while before they are available to the automotive industry.

I remember seeing a video about these a few years ago, didn't seem like a good idea to me at the time. But then I saw a video online a few months ago (might have been the Audi in the pics above) doing a slalon, and I was pretty impressed. Here's a video that shows part of what I saw, but check out this explosion...pretty crazy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7gANJWRWIs |

they have stuff out like that now, thats basically what it looks like inside a runflat tire. They have sidewalls and air still tho. The new odysey tires are like that. SS |

It's a tire that doesn't need air to work. If you hit a nail it will still go just as well as if it didn't. It uses a lot less rubber than a usual tire, and the rubber outside is replaceable when it does wear out. And with the fact that there's no solid way of recycling tires (except grounding them up or using them for tire swings), there will be fewer tires around to take up space in garbage dumps. This is a GREAT advancement in technology. If it's not used in this specific design, at the very least it will be a basis for future advancement for something even better. Screw the "it's so ugly" bullshit, it's not ment to be a bling bling wheel, it's ment to be functional. |
