I'd really like to know your favorite way to make a 14 year old engine bay shine like showroom-fresh, you seem like the one to know! Thanks! |

Here is what I do for an engine detail What you will need -Simple Green (Wal-Mart) -Medium Bristled Nylon Brush (Wal-Mart) -303 Aerospace Protectant ( West Marine or http://www.westmarine.com ) -Chrome Polish (Wal-Mart) Procedure -Start up your car and let run til its WARM, not full operating temp, but until the needle moves a little higher than cold -Shut off the engine and put plastic over your distributor, battery terminals, stereo wires or any electrical contacts that in your honest opinion should not get wet. I usually just put Saran Wrap over them. -Next, you want to hose down your engine compartment with a decently powerful nozzle, with still being 'easy' around the electrical areas. -Next, spray on the Simple Green GENEROUSLY. Allow to soak into the entire compartment for roughly 5-10 mins. -Then begin scrubbing with the bristled brush on hoses, valve cover, etc. -Following, you want to spray down the entire compartment with the hose again. Simple Green gets sudsy, so make sure you get it all off. -IMMEDIATELY after you turn off the hose, take off the plastic protection, start the engine, and run for 5 mins. -Finally, turn off the engine, repeat cleaning if neccessary along with the engine idle for 5 mins, then allow to dry with the hood open. -When the compartment is dry, treat all the plastic, vinyl or rubber with 303 Aerospace Protectant, let dry for 10 mins, then buff the excess off. -Polish any chrome with a good chrome polish. Notes -Be CAREFUL. This is a proven way to clean engines. However, if your electrical components are weak, I would reccomend replacing them before you do this. |
