After waiting since x-mas to get my PS2 online, I finally got it done today...or so I thought. I scrapped my router (conflicts with the other router it is hooked to) and got a hub, ran the wires, hooked up the network adapter and was all set to go. So I popped in the disk that came with the ps2 network adapter and all I hear is a light grinding noise. Pop it out and look at the disk. Surprise surprise it's a f*cking blue disk! I'm one of the unlucky bastards who bought a PS2 that has the infamous read error problems with the blue disks (and 4 or 5 games I've never been able to play). This is clearly a known problem for Sony, yet they still choose to sell products that are effected with this issue. So F U Sony, I'm selling my sh*t and buying an XBOX 360 (when they fix their problems On a side note; anyone know how to fix the read error problem? I tried fixing it a few times before, dismantle and spin that little white gear, etc . But does anyone know which way to spin the gear, in case I spun it the wrong way? All the how-tos I've seen online always say to spin it, and if that doesn't work to spin it the other way (wtf?). |

uhhh, they fixed that problem a long time ago - now they have the slim ps2's (which I traded my old one in for) w/ built it network adapter. Did you buy a used one? |

Naw, I've had it for like 4 or 5 years now. The problem started like 9 months after I bought it, and I've just delt with it since then. Most of the games that I have that either never worked once or only worked once, were Greatest Hits games; but still that's like $80 I spent on things that don't work. I'm going to spend tomorrow taking it apart and trying this out until it works (or I'll throw it out the window): http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/ ... /ps2.ars/2 |

I'm screwed... I took it apart today and found a big problem (after dicking around with that damn gear of about 30 minutes).
Don't know if you can really see it in those pics, but the part that the disk rests on and the laser is attached to, doesn't move up and down when the tray slides in and out.
I'm pretty sure that white part is what's giving me the problems. That thing controls whether it raises or not. The way it is when I opened it up, it's slid all the way over to the side and doesn't move back and forth when I slide the tray in and out.
I pushed on that white piece so it wasn't stuck anymore and would move freely. Now the problem (pretty obvious from the pic) that now the thing comes up before the tray can get past it. So the tray gets caught on the area where the disk sits.Guess I'll just try and mess with it a little more, until I either fix it or break it. |

Yeah, I just sold my slipstreams the other day so I'm got a little cash to spend (after my car insurance payment). So I'm going to find a place to trade in my old broken one and some games I don't want anymore, and buy a new one or used one. I've been without it for a month and there hasn't been anything good on tv...I'm very bored. |
