ok well for my sophmore year, i am taking a media class that teaches me about everything i need to know about cameras... my grandfather said he would buy me a new camera, so im wondering what i should get? im a really big fan of slr cameras so im really pointing towards them. is there any good cameras that arent too expensive. ( not becoming a professional photographer anytime soon |

just get a used slr off ebay. they are very inexpensive. i have a ricoh xr-7 that works pretty well. since youre LEARNING how to use a camera, you dont need anything spectacular. you can also go to a camera repair shop, they may have some older ones floating around. the camera wont be expensive, its the film and processing that really breaks the bank |

^^^ +1 or if you're picky like me and don't like the feeling of "used", then you should look into (i guess called) mid-class SLR cameras. if you're gonna be shooting a lot, then SLR is the way to go. i'm assuming you're shooting digital? i shoot with a nikon D50 and love everything about it. easy settings, true colors, and it FEELS great. the grip is perfect for my hands. i've tried everything from canon to olympus and to me, nikon is perfect. if you're shooting 35mm, then nikon N80 is your friend. that's what i had before i sold it and got the digital. |

i recommend anything canon. however, if you really want to read up on reviews and what not click here. thats the site i use when researching cameras. Also, lots of mfgs are rolling out their new lineups right now so right now is the perfect time to buy. |

you know you can get digital prints of your photos when you have them developed right? DSLR's are nice, but to learn off of, i still suggest a 35mm. |
