I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain
Paint Questions
Paint Questions
I have some questions about painting my car. The current color on my ej8 is a forest green ( the stock green ) and I was thinking about painting it white. I would like to know some basic prices for a repaint (( minus engine bay, and interior )). Also, since im getting white, would it matter if I got a basic enamel, or should I go with a clear coat.... If I decided on a clear coat, how many layers would be best for a coupe?
Just to clarify, there are two main ways to paint a car (as I understand it). The cheaper jobs are "integrated clearcoat" where the enamel and clear are shot at once and then the whole shabang is baked to bring the clear to the surface. The other is the traditional method of spraying a separate clearcoat over the enamel coat. This generally holds up for longer and is easier to keep shiny.
since im the paint and body guy, here it goes
theres single stage and base clear. single stage the clear coat is in the paint already, u mix in the paint and hardner, and reduce it, and spray,
base clear is where you spray the base coat(in your case white) and let it get tacky and spray clear, usly just 2 or 3 coats, depends on why you are doing the paint job,
sounds like its not a show car, cause your not doing the door jams, and under hood(engine bay) (cheaper is the single stage) also depending on what kinda paint you buy, dupont,HOK,ect... with HOK, (house of kolor) your going to get top noch shit, and whoever is painting it better know what there doing, dupont sprays great, cheaper, and has eazy mixing codes.
let me know some details, and ill let u know.
