I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

turbo question

Post by hondalowlow » September 28, 2006

so here it goes..
i put vitara pistons in my d16y8 and there 8.5.1. commpression
does lower compression lower your vac pressure. im running -20 on my boost gauge

the reason i ask is because, my bov isnt opening fast enough and cause comp surge. it sounds like a turkey gobble. then it opens. its like the vac suction is super slow. i put a larger vac hose from my manifold to my bov. and still does it. is there any vaccum enhancer that i can get to boost my vac pressure up?

i have a greddy type-s <- real deal not knock off, i never had any problems with it until i put my engine back in after the rebuild. i even took it apart and anti seized it real good for lubrication. still not good

it goes like this.. engine revvs builds boost then chikka chikka chikka pssssssstt.. so its not opening quick engough. and yes i adjusted the set screw the whole way to soft. and tried that. no good. im stumped.

just a quick question..... you didn't happen to go to an external wastegate did you???? My externally gated setup does the same thing at low boost levels (3-4 psi) .... but blows off normally at full boost and during quick shifts.....
finally turbo!
check the cardomain!!! http://www.cardomain.com/ride/832854

I have a Tial 35mm on the miata....atmospheric dump also.....and my wastegate makes fluttering noises that sound quite a bit like compressor surge.... that could be what you are hearing (assuming that everything is hooked up correctly)

also.... I believe that greddy sells a softer spring for the bov.... if you are running low boost levels that may be a good route to go.

my wastegate is internal its built in with the DSM 14b turbo. the fluttering noise is the compressor surging a little bit. all turbos do it but not noticable. my problem is low vaccum pressure i belive, but as for the BOV faq answer im running 12psi daily. and my bov is opening but opening late. its not as responsave as before.
