I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

i went to my parents house in portage today and way off in the distance something strange caught my eye. standing at 400ft off the ground and spreading 225 ft across . when i got to there house they were staring down on me. its one hell of a experience being up close to them and acually seeing how huge they are. i was 15 miles away when i first saw them on the mountain top.

they put 20 of them up so far and are doing a total of 75 or so.
then moving towards altoona and indiana pa with more.
hell free energy. cant complain.

here ya go. 56k pack a lunch

Ashley's doing her masters thesis on wind power in PA. Hell of alot better than some of the power plants around here. The power plants supply energy to DC and other metros not even in PA.

i had a class last semester about appropriate technology and one of the big topics of the class was alternate energy sources. one of the sources were these windfarms. there are a bunch of poeple who are saying that they are eye sores and what not and that we should just keep to coal and natural gas power plants... thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. i really dont think theyre that big of eye sores, people are just looking at them the wrong way. yeah i mean they dont look liek supermodels or anything (it would be sweet if they did tho) but would you rather look at huge coulds of coal smoke and steam from cooling towers? i wouldnt. furthermore i find this to be a key element to cleaner enery and another step away from our national dependance on fossil fuels. the only real downside of this is that birds fly into them and die, but the way i see that is birds die anyway and once theyre around long enough they will figure out not to fly into them. ok i'm gettin off my soap box now. jude where are they in portage? i wunna go check em out. i saw the ones in sommerset. what are everyone elses thoughts on wind power?

wow after doing some internet searching on the wind turbines here in california.....i found out that there is several of the huge ones like you guys are getting.... but they also have what they call "wind farms" which have abunch of these smaller ones (which are still about 200ft tall): Image Image all in all california has about 15,000 wind turbines spread out acorss the state.

we even have a post card for them

Really good idea to use these. Just need to be in areas with high amounts of winds. Cali works perfect with te santa anna winds every year. Some place like here, where we really see high wind speeds, wouldn't do that much would it???
