I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

MKIII Supra

Post by tenchu » December 15, 2003

I want to buy a MKIII Supra, this time for sure, im not gonna switch, what should i expect to pay for a bottom of the line one? the ONLY thing i want is targa, no turbo manditory, but anything else i dont care about, but i HAVE to have a targa and CANT have a turbo, ahah im pickey, :) thanks

The reason i dont want a turbo is insurance, and once i get the money ( if ever ) i want to drop a 2JZ-GTE 6-speed in, its been done a few times on supraforums.com so i know its possible :)

Near me I saw a 90, Turbo 5spd targa, graphite color, 124k miles, looked clean, wanted 1200$ I almost bought it. Ive seen em go for like 500-700$ not running

Slam some MKIV TT wheels on em and drop em, and they look hot.

as for the 2JZ, if its LHD, your gunna have to go single turbo, because twins hit the firewall and something else... gunna need 89+ crossmember and mounts, stretch out the tunnel a little bit, modify the getrag (chop a few inches off of it) get a custom driveshaft, and then wire it all up.

Its alotta work, but ends up being pretty bad ass

You could get a 1JZ, and just buy a 2JZ shortblock, and I remember hearing the 1JZ head flows better...

Oh yeah, you said you want a N/A for insurance reasons...well...hate to tell you but, if you do the 2JZ swap, if your car gets wrecked, your getting exactly how much an N/A 87-92 Supra is worth, doesnt matter if you have reciepts. Insurance companies will throw you the shaft.
My friend had a 94 6spd single turbo supra with only like 55k miles on it, had an engine fire, blah long story, gave the insurance company over 35 grand in reciepts ( new porsche paint job, single turbo, electronics, blah blah blah ) and they ended up giving him like 21k for the car i believe...They wanted to only give him 17...

Thats just something for you to think about.

ok im going to wake this up from the dead, personally if I were you I would buy a 89+ turbo targa, so you already have a turbo differential and what not. Then I would build a 1.5jz not get a 2jz. Get a 2jz short block, a r154 and 1jz head, make sure you talk to your whoever is helping you build your car and ask them if they know how to do such an engine, if not do some research on supraforums and supramania great information there. Alright now that we have the basics covered, if you do a full 2jz conversion you will be running into quite a few problems via the tranny and getting it to fit and clearance ect. There are also debates on whether or not the 1jz head flows better, the way the 1jz head is designed it is easier to get ported and polished without problems. Anywa if you have more questions just ask, and this is just what I would do so do what you want I was just making a suggestion.

you dont need 550's to up the boost on a 1jz, you dont even need 440's off the stock jdm2jz, you can use the stock injectors a fuel pump and fpr, you dont need an fmic eiter but it is nice to have
