I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain
It has begun....

well i know shoestring and yesterday he got his car tuned and only made 6 more whp then his motor did last year see he spent all that money on it big ass cams, and other stuff and only made 6 more whp im not dissing the K series im just a bigger fan of the b and like to prove people wrongmiyagi wrote:did you talk to Nikos OR the owner of the yellow K car? If you did you'd know that it was untuned, and they were just data logging each run and changing little things here and there on the fly. When they did the cams and whatever else was changed since last year, they actually LOST ET and MPH since they were on the same tune as the previous year.
BTW - your prices are a bit off... Hercules had an entire K swap ready for his car for right around the price of an ITR swap... he just ended up selling it because of money issues.
Mounts are about half the price that you mentioned, even cheaper if you buy them used. Hercules found a set for ~300 the other day... and OEM Type S axles work just fine... and they're A LOT cheaper than 1000.
B Series is just old technology ... everyone knows that. The only weakpoint of the K is the tranny... same as with the H series ... and that's why alot of people are jumping on the H2B thing now that you don't have to use the cable linkage with an H swap.
Fitting things in? I helped with a kswap and it's NO harder than a bseries swap ... I had more fitment problems with my b series going back into my GSR than the K did going into darren's civic.
I'll agree with you that you can build a fast B for well under the price of a kswap car (if you buy everything brand new anyway), but like I said, a BOLT ON K swap makes as much power as a lot of built B series (not the hardcore ones, but most out there) and loads more torque... and you don't have to spin it to the moon to find the power.
I'm not trying to say one's better than the other ... but don't judge it unless you know exactly what you're talking about. I sure as hell don't have all the answers, but facts are facts.
Either way - i'd rather have a turbo b anyway, i've just wanted to build a k car for years.

If a car isn't tuned and races, thats not an excuse. It raced...
The motor Darren picked up for the great price was JUNK quite possibly the trans too. It had actually spit the thrust washers out of the block and they were in the oil pan.
OEM NON-Type S axles work not Type S
One of the big problems With Going K is the Hefty price of tunable engine management.
And what is the DISADVANTAGE to revving a motor "to the moon"?
B-Series is simple

6whp, but how much torque. When's the peak power/torque come on? and what's under the curve? I haven't seen the sheet, so i don't know, but i don't see it to be as peaky as most all motor b series graphs are.. not calling you out, i'd just like to see the graph.civic946 wrote:well i know shoestring and yesterday he got his car tuned and only made 6 more whp then his motor did last year see he spent all that money on it big ass cams, and other stuff and only made 6 more whp im not dissing the K series im just a bigger fan of the b and like to prove people wrong
really? i had no ideaNatural Aspirations wrote:....

i actually forgot about the motor being poop. I haven't really talked to darren much about cars since he picked that motor up way back when. Even so, i think his GT was roughly 3500 at the time (i may be wrong, but for whatever reason that rings a bell) and even though he had a few things to buy, he would have still been WELL under the k series budget that floyd was assuming... even buying another shortblock. And that was my only point with that.[/quote]The motor Darren picked up for the great price was JUNK quite possibly the trans too. yeaaa my bad hah. i actually thought about that at work today about how it i thought it should have been non type s axles because i remember darren looking for base models before. Either way - the point of that was that 1000 dollars being a must for axles was waayyy wrong.OEM NON-Type S axles work not Type S
for now i guess you just gotta pay to play ... and there's nothing wrong with that ... the only people who bitch about money spent are people that shouldn't be trying to afford it anyway. Everything goes withing budget and if you're smart about it everything is affordable. One of the big problems With Going K is the Hefty price of tunable engine management.
I agree that it's pricey, but it's not much different than a b series running aem EMS is it? I don't know the price of an EMS for either - but i don't remember them being THAT much different new vs new. LMK if i'm wrong on that one.
honestly, not very much, but I'm sure the added RPM doesn't help with wear and tear over the years though. My point was that you don't HAVE to spin it to make power. The added powerband, setting you higher in your powerband, and the higher mph in gear is all nice though i suppose. I just honestly don't like the fact of revving high when it's unneeded. Perfect example is the change in powerbands since the wastegate spring swap in my car ... it hasn't even seen over 7500 yet whereas before it didn't even want to make power until then. Part of the reason it hasn't been revved high is because i don't drive it hard anyway anymore other than the occasional vtec crack ... i'd say 90% of the time it's under 4000.. but that's a story in it's own.And what is the DISADVANTAGE to revving a motor "to the moon"?
i learned about K.I.S.S. waaayyy to much in my business management courses ... i hated it haha. I had to hear about it on a regular basis and i knoooww there are still people with an Ass. degree that graduated with me that still have no idea what it means... God i hated that school.B-Series is simple
K.I.S.S> keep it simple stupid
money for money you can build on hell of a bseries, but you can't say that motor for motor the k doesn't have more potential and is only going to get better as time goes on.... THAT is my reasoning.

So its about that time of year. I hear snow in the forecast for this week so the whip is getting parked for the winter. Before that i got it detailed ready for storage. Thing looks and smells brand new.
As far as over winter plans. Rip off the b16 head get the type r head assembled and what not put the type r head on. Cage it. Slicks and new axels. SiR front and rear bumpers and get a traction bar. If i can find a solid daily driver im going to pump that bitch full of race gas but we'll soo how things go.
