I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain
what can be done with this?

ok, a dohc vtec b16 bottom combined with a b18 head, what can be (excluding internals) for horsepower gains? keepin it NA though!
is this a good setup to start with? i dont really know a lot about hondas yet so im just wondering what can be done with this engine in terms of power.
and some questions!!!
-the b16 and b18 have the same bore but the b18 has a longer stroke right?
-the b18 heads should flow better for the added displacement, it would make sense, more displacement needs more air?
-is the squish area (the area where the pistons meet the top of the cylinder head) for the b16 and b18 heads the same? if the b18 is larger, that would mean that the compression on this specific engine would be lower than a stock b16?
-if it is smaller for some reason, then the compression would be greater meaning that it would have more power than a stock b16.
someone correct me if im wrong here!!!

Holy questions, batman. First, I'm going to ask a question...why the b16 bottom with the b18c head? Do you have these parts laying around?
Ok. B18 has a longer stroke. Correct me if I'm wrong, someone, but I believe the B18 has a smaller "squish" area.

well, thats the setup on a car that i might buy, but i want to know if that is a good setup so far and if a lot can be done with that.
i always thought people did it the other way around using a b18 bottom end with b16 heads?
if the b18 has a smaller squish area then, that means that the compression would be raised...
also that means that with aftermarket cams i would be worried about piston to valve clearance?
anyone have specs on b18 heads, normal lift and duration and other things like that? and specific stroke for the b16? i asked on some other honda pages but no one wants to give me any answers
if i can get some specs for these parts, i could go from there with it cause i really want to get this car!!! the legacy just doesnt cut it performance wise!

people do do it the other way around. Sounds to me like whoever you're buying this from got the ass end of someone else's b18 swap.
I would also venture to guess it's a b16a bottom end but a b18b head which is complete shit. And if so you should probably stay away from it. A b18b head on a b16 block would be complete shit.

yeah it guess it would be the b18c head on the b16 cause it is vtec....munster wrote:I thought you were referring to a B18C head on a B16. If it is a B18b head on a B16 then you are actually losing alot of potential hp.
B18c = vtec
B18a/b= nonvtec.
i told the kid today that im not going to get it, it sounds like this engine isnt really as good as i thought it was going to be
well, im sure ill come across something else... i really want to get somethin to work on.
