I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

n02 03 miata?

Post by sfc » August 24, 2005

Some guy I work with is wondering what kind of a shot a stock 03 miata can take without going b00m. Any miata experts care to comment, or have links to bolt-on kits?

Should be able to handle the same amount as a LS/GSR, Miata longblocks are stout. Of course, all of the regular nitrous precautions should be taken. Has he tried asking on Miata.net?

Found on n20mx5.com:

4. How much horsepower can I add?

A stock Miata motor can safely handle a 75 shot fogger setup. It has been reported that these cars hold up fine at the 100 shot level using direct port nitrous injection due to improved flow distribution. Older or high mileage cars may need a fuel pump upgrade beyond the 50-55 hp level. A clutch upgrade is also recommended beyond the 55 hp range, as it may not be able to hold the torque beyond that level.

4. What do I need other than the basic kit to get started?

You MUST have or Do:

Colder plugs to prevent Detonation. Detonation is VERY bad on a nitrous motor. Detonation can cause melted spark plugs, holed pistons, and even backfires that can toast your intake plumbing and MAF, and in severe cases your intake manifold. Don’t ask how I know. Everyone in the N20MX5 community that I know run Autolite 3922’s successfully
High octane fuel. Use the highest octane you can purchase at the pump in your area. DO NOT attempt to run mid-grade. Like colder plugs, this helps prevent detonation.
Check your timing! Some users can run advanced timing on nitrous, but this is not something you should try on your first bottle or so. If you advanced your timing while N/A, make sure you set it back to 10 degrees. A “bipes” timing control can be used to retard the timing aggressively when the spray is on
