I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

If you're going to get the EP, I say invest zero in the EF and just save. You won't get your money back when you sell it.

The suspension on the EF isn't that great anyway, problem Si.

double independant wishbone suspension > macpherson struts

nuff said.

Also, I guess I'm kind of a purist. The ef's had no frills, no unecessary weight...it was meant to be light and quick. The Ep's are nice, but I just think honda got away from what made the Si hatch such a great tuner car. IMO the last legit Si was the eg.

And if you're looking to invest $ into a car, you should never expect to recover that on a sale. Anyways...you should go with whatever setup you desire, as long as you have fun building it.

Name one civic with double wishbones...

anyway..

I'm with you on the EF being more purist, but I think the last true Si was the 87, when Si meant something.

Yeah thats true, i guess the ef si's did have some frills, and a little unecessary weight (i.e. power windows and sunroof, not necessary IMO) but they were meant to be light and quick. I just really love EPs my friend, spn_fed has his and lets me drive it from time to time and i just really like them...a lot. So i guees thats the best route to go, with the car i like the most.

I'll name 3 generations ef, eg and ek. It's almost 4am and I've been working 12hr nights for the last 14 days, but I'm sure about this one.

B/C I don't want to speculate, I offer you this:

A double-wishbone suspension system was used at all four wheels. Inspired by Formula One race cars, this design promoted agile handling and a comfortable ride by precisely controlling wheel travel and keeping the tire's contact patch square to the road surface.

The newest Civics ride on a stiffer platform that decreases chassis flex and thus provides better handling and increased crash protection. But to the chagrin of hard-core enthusiasts, Honda replaced the front double-wishbone suspension setup with a more space-efficient McPherson-strut setup, which isn't as easy to "slam" (lower) as the double-wishbone design.

The reason I say that the wishbone setup is better is b/c of the tunability. The Macpherson setup is cheap and easy to make....Thats why most car makers today use it...cost effective

I agree that the 87 Si was where it all began, But the ef made advancements with the addition of multi point, and the aforementioned wishbone setup. The egs went one step further by adding vtec, and even rear disc brakes. All of these cars had a minimalist approach to creature comforts. The Ek coupe Si, IMO, took that and destroyed it by adding the power options, power steering, etc, and about 400 extra pounds of unecessary metal.

This is why I am building an ef3, and not buying a 2000+ civic.

Save your money for your next car.

You don't want to eat 3 bags of chips and 2 liters of Coke before your favorite dinner.

I know what the manufacturer says, and honestly if Honda wants to pass that off as a double-wishbone suspension, more power to them. But it isn't. Up front it's an upper wishbone and lower control arm triangulated to the front Xmember. You have to have a lower wishbone to have 2 wishbones, sorry. I agree wishbones are better than struts in theory, I certainly prefer them 8) , but the EF has so little suspension travel it's almost not worth it. I know, I've owned two of them.

I can only think of a few cars with true double wishbone suspensions. Honda S2k, Miata, and some Lotus' come to mind.

Sorry tomo for bringing your thread so far off-topic.
