I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

I agree that owning legit parts is always best, and it feels good to say you have the real thing and having people realize how much time and money you put into finding a rare part. But sometimes some people just can't afford freaking 2500 dollar rims, or 1500 dollar exhaust systems, or 2000 dollar suspension. Thats why people drive hondas. If youre going to invest so much damn money to make your car fast, why wouldn't you start with the best platform?

For critical parts such as suspension, rims, tires - I agree that SAFE parts are the way to go, not neccessarily legit, but safe - if you're going to modify your car, at least do it safely.

I look at the car as a whole, if its clean, functional, and the owner is honest about what he has, i say rock on.

the way i look at it is this.

build your car for yourself and not for others. because there not the one rocking it. you are.

i purchased some knock off parts and some real parts. but my stuff evens out. in a way.

real - sir cluster
knock - spoon mirrors
real - jdm parking pole
knock - password fogs <-- i dont see these as knocks but soime people do.
real - VISION amber corners
knock- spoon lip
real - eg6 amber sidemarkers
real- top fuel intake
real - J's racing intake

my motor parts are ligit.
jdm itr pistons
jdm itr rods
blox itr/gsr intake mani
DC sports 4-1 itr rep header

Jude are you running 2 throttle bodies?

Here's how I feel on this topic. I personally don't judge anyone on their build because everyone has a story. If you buy all legit parts and spend $20,000 dollars then people tear you down because you either are rich and mommy and daddy bought it or in debt up to his/her ears because it’s all on credit. I will admit that if you see a knock off part it lets you down a bit but if the person isn’t carrying an ego about it then who cares. If he comes off as his car is so bad ass and everything else is junk well then I could see calling him out and putting him in check if that is your thing. I just enjoy meeting cool people who have the same interests I have, a clean fast car. I have been through a lot of ups and downs while owning my cars and I respect the fact that someone wants to save money because they got everyday living expenses I completely understand that I can eat sour grapes and settle for knock off or not as good stuff. I personally never owned a real respectable wheel until a year ago every other wheel I owned was because it was an affordable wheel that didn’t weight that much, I didn’t want to run factory wheel covers until I could afford a top end wheel that wouldn’t make sense. So I guess to sum it all up if someone openly admits that it’s knock off and has a good personality about it then cool, if they want to tear on other stuff then flame away. Either way I just shut up because someone can always point back at you no matter what no one’s build is 100%.

yeah i have to say that i agree with what everyone is saying here...if i have knock parts i'm gonna tell you and probably laugh cause i dont care. but as far as buying legit parts the money is and issue, i mean i'm a full time student, i work to jobs to make some cash but i have other things i need to pay for before i drop $1500 on a suspension or wheels

to me it depends what it is. i wouldnt run knock off parts that if they break can cause catastrophic failure(reground cams, cheap pistons, non name brand rods, thin tube turbo manifolds etc.) i know some people have luck with them but for me id rather trust a name brand. as far as knock offs if it can do the same thing without hurting anything then why not save the money? id rather run a set of rotas and have money left over to enjoy the car at an open track day or autocross than spend all my money on a set of name brand wheels only to hang out in a sheets parking lot eating a .99 hot dog because im broke, but hey, look at my sweet wheels, just sitting here,in a parking lot.
but dont get me wrong, if you can afford the good stuff then thats great. id rather see some one running knock off parts and be out there enjoying the car that the parts were ment for it to do than buying brand name stuff and having it just sit there. but the bottom line is and always will be "to each there own".

yeah i agree and thats what i have meant the whole time...i would want to by the legit performance parts becuase they're trust worthy but as for as cosmetic pieces such as a lip, mirrors, grills, headlights, interior pieces, etc... i just think that the knock offs are no different. For example, instead of buying the real type r door panels with the red arm rest inserts i opted to buy a rewrap kit for mine and they look just fine and suit me well, i paid $50 for the kit and yeah i had a little extra work to do but i also saved about $250 that i could use for something else.
