I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Honda Car and Truck of the Year
Saw a commercial last night from Honda that said the '06 Si and Ridgeline were Motor Trend's car and truck of the year; and that it was the first time a car manufacturer was awarded both in the same year. Hopefully this will get Honda to step it up for their next re-design.
But I can see why the Si is the car of the year, but the Ridgeline? I've never driven one, but that thing is ugly as hell.

If you think Honda needs to step it up for the next redesign, then you obviously haven't looked too well at a new Civic-- by far the best compact car built for the money to date.
Of course, the fact that the car and truck of the year awards have been out for an extended amount of time and you think it's current news tells alot about you.....

I'm not saying that they didn't step it up with the new Civic, but they need to do more if they really want to sell them. They need to do something to get people to buy a brand new car, and not just modify an older one. I could spend $5,000-10,000 less on my Civic Including the price of the car), and have it at least as fast (not talking just the ¼ mile either, I'm talking all around performance). And I do have to disagree with the best compact comment. Look at the Saturn Ion Redline, 205hp, 200tq; for $1,000-2,000 less. '06 VW GTI; 200hp, 207tq, for around $1000 more. The Civic might take a turn better than those other cars (but I'm not sure about that personally), but there are other cars out there within the same price range, that have a little more power. But none of that matters, because Toyota will still beat everyone in car sales this year.mr.green wrote:If you think Honda needs to step it up for the next redesign, then you obviously haven't looked too well at a new Civic-- by far the best compact car built for the money to date.

Yeah I'm sure that this being new news to me does say something. It says that I don't go online looking for awards that new cars have been given, and that I just saw the commercial for the first time LAST NIGHT. But it does say alot about you, that you need to try and belittle someone just because they have a different opinion than yours

A cars design and overall quality is not simply judged by its speed alone. The car of the year award is given to a vehicle that has all its qualities added up and came to have a better score then the rest of the cars compared. If you base your arguement at price verse speed, an SRT-4 is far better then a redline or a GTI, but not many people are going to agree its the best car out there. Motor Trend is not judging a car like you are whatsoever. They take many componemts and attributes of a car and judge them, then collectively add the score up to an overall number. Sure the saturn has a close price to and has more power then a Civic, but is built like a tuna can compared to a Honda. It has cheap interior parts, large gaps betwween the body fitment and in long term testing proved to have reliability issues. Honda also is not looking at you primarily to buy their car. Sure Honda is getting on the bandwagon and encourages people to modify the Civic. But a car manufacturer is going to try to appeal to a mainstream buyer who will be happy with the car the way it is stock, and not expect it to to 12 second quarter miles-- Honda is going to design a well rounded "performance oriented" car that appeals to a large audience.
Yes, I am ignorant- I'm ignorant to ignorant people. People who sound off their mouths with one sided opinions and do not look before they leap. You can't judge your opinions on a car by looking at a picture in a magazine go drive the cars and find out for yourself.
At least you are right about something, Toyota will beat everyone this year. The only reason the Civic won is because the new Camry doesn't come out til March/April. I will place money on it taking 2006 Car of the Year.
