I took it all out after I cancelled my XM service, I'm sorta taking the "add lightness" approach, plus with broken AC, and thus windows down, the freeway noise is loud enough without having to crank the tunes and damage my hearing more than it is already..so..

XM radio direct (dedicated) tuner box, with Pioneer adapter. Lets you control the XM through the head unit instead of having the extra box, also has better sound from being hardwired. Bought for 150 bucks.
