I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

real or fake???

Post by JDMJedi » October 31, 2006

Hey,

I was wondering how can you tell if a part is the real deal or not. Like I saw some vavle cap for your tires that were really cool. they were metal and on top they had a TRD logo on them, but when I look in the TRD catalog for this year I can't find them. Maybe it was something made a few years ago, and I can't find an older catalog, but how do I know if it really is a TRD part or not.

Same thing with like I see people with rims that say mugen on them, but they are a different color than what I have seen as made colors. ie rnr in chrome.

Just was curious

I would imagine that in most cases air caps for your tires would be fake.....

as for the wheels, I'm not really a mugen nut.... so I have no idea if they are directly counterfitted as far as wheels go...logos and all

Alot of the times if it is a frequently duplicated part there are obvious differences between the real and fake. Sometimes the copy is really good. You just really have to research the part(s) to see what is real.

ie...mugen valve covers. Some are very close to the original with only a slight difference in the font (like a slight bit more italic). If it is a cast part then you can figure it out by looking at a specific cast marking.

To sum it up...buy online only if it is from a trusted vendor. If you are going to risk it...you might get burned. Just don't let it happen again.
