I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Inspection Questions

Post by downshiftmotoring » January 15, 2008

I moved to Pittsburgh in June of 07 and just got my Civic hatch ready to get plates. It does have a check engine light. What are the standards for inspection when you buy a used vehicle and are getting it plated for the first time it is a 92 civic. Does any one know any shops that will "Help" me get inspected. I am asking because in Indiana where I used to live Emisssions was crazy and you couldnt even have swapped cars you had to have the stock engine to install back in every two years to pass emissions. How crazy is PA???

How quick does the light come on? I know in NY there aren't many things checked for OBDI cars. but if you can disconnect the battery (or radio fuse should work too) to reset the car and if the light doesnt come on right away when you start the car you could probally get it inspected without problems.

Also have you checked the code its throwing to see what is actually wrong? If not it would probally be a good idea to do that also if you havent already...

PA isn't extremely strict about swaps and shit. They care about your CEL being on/off. Visual safety inspection, they'll pressure-test your gas cap, and also visually inspect your exhaust/catalyst system. Perhaps someone on here knows somewhere you can go where they would be more lenient on an inspection.

i had a cel for a broken primary o2 sensor. cleared it by removing the ecu fuse, and i passed inspection and emissions.

just because the light is out doesn't mean the computer didn't store the cel. if you pull the fuse to the ecu, itll clear all the codes until the ecu figures out something is wrong.

i dont' think your car will run at all. take it to autozone and get it read, they will tell you whats wrong

u can jump the plug yourself and diag. the code yourself instead of running to auto zone.

check it.
