looking for something i dont know the name to...

whats it called when you have a piece of material under the front bumper to help direct air flow? i just realised that when i put on my AIRwalker it will have a huge hole where ill be able to see the ground through the bumper... so im looking for something where i can mount it underneath to block that hole to increase flow to the radiator/brake area... or is that a bad idea? it will also serve as something to help with the scraping of the bottom of the front bumper and alittle more stiff as the bottom will be conected to the car as well instead of just hanging there...

beautiful car but i dont like seeing the ground like that... any help?

the only thing that i can think of is a skid plate thats used on rally cars.

A lot of people call it a front bumper splitter or front diffuser. It would add the look you want as well as a lot of function, since the car in that pic would have the air come through the bumper and then some of it can escape under the intercooler. The splitter would improve aerodynamics and force all the air that comes in the bumper to go through the IC.

The harsh reality is that unless there's a splitter made for the BYS (doubt it) you'd have to fabricate it. It would have to be strong and mounted in such a way that it would not fly off at speed. This is why most splitters are bolted under the bumper and also supported by those braces (forget what their called) that all the ricers have. I forget what their called. I'll try to find pics.

well i dont want it sticking out like those are in the picktures... i want it to look factory so i couldnt have it like that... hmmm that sucks though if id have to have one made...id bolt it to the bumper and then bolt it to the frame but thats just me...and the way they have it set up i wouldnt doubt that the air preasure would force it down... i want mine flush so the preasure wont force the car down but still force the air inside instead of every where.... any ideas?

sounds like you're not so much concerned with the function, just with the look, so just a plate running from the leading edge of the bumper to the X member ought to do it.

The reason those are like that is that they serve a purpose beyond looks. Now this is just my opinion, but I say form follows function. I'd rather have aero that serves a purpose than aero that's just nice to look at.

well im looking to make the air pathways more smooth but im not looking for downforce on the front end... i just dont want air that can be forced strait to the brakes or radiator or even the intake to be wasted cause the bumper doesnt have a bottom part that connects to the bottom part of the car... plus i hate those braces personally... i also can see why they need those though as the downforce alone would nap it back.... if i was to do something similar it would have to be near the edge of the bumper not sticking out farther then the bumper so i dont get the downforce but i get to still channel the ari path ways

Get a piece of aluminum, lay bumper on it, trace the outline, cut it with a bit of extra space towards the front of the bumper, bolt it like under the radiator support and then have it tuck up in the bottom lip of your bumper, done.

I was lookin at one of my roommates option mags and they had an article where they made a bunch of low budget splitters, just made them out of wood and did pretty much the same thing except they drilled and bolted or ziptied them to the bumper as well as bolting under the rad support...
Roommate translated it and said they actually didnt mind using the plywood because it wasnt too too heavy, was cheap as shit, and when you would scrape shit it would just sort of wear away into the shape it should be anyway.. I know your not going to want to rock plywood, but it just goes to show you its not rocket science, just bolt some shit under there to keep the air going into your ic/radiator
