I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

question about engine

Post by JDMJedi » December 26, 2006

Hey guys I got a quick question. I don't know much about hondas but I need to ask about this. My little sister bought a 99gsr from her boss. This thing is seriously clean. The car has 20k miles on it and is in perfect condition. It has been modified a little bit. It has type r seats and shift knob and boot, 5 lug wheels, and a couple of other little things. Honda badges all around and everything. I really wanted to buy it from her and give her the ist, but she didn't want it. Anyways back to my question, the enigne. I thought it came with some version of the B18 engine, This thing has a B16A. Is that right. He said he replaced the engine, he preferred the B16 over the B18. Is there a benifit to using the B16 over the B18??? He gave her the original eninge on a cherry picker if she wants to use it instead, I told her I would ask u guys before telling her to sell the motor or not. What do you all think???

Ummm, if it is a gsr, its has a b18c, i cant see any b16 being better than a b18c in stock form. maybe a b16 head on the b18c block due to better flow, but idk. i'd guess theres something wrong with the b18 if he did a swap like that. it'd be faster with the gsr in it.

gsr is worth more than a b16 also

GSR > B16.

Kinda curious as to what his reasoning is for pulling the B18c in the first place.

If she isn't worried about it don't bother swapping it. Just sell the B18c, but I know I wouldn't buy a GSR w/ a B16 in it. Might be worth it for resale to swap it even if she doesn't care as much about performance

I didn't think it was a good idea either, but she had already bought the car. At least he gave her everything to go with it, but it was just weird to put a B16 in when you had a great B18 in it already. Oh well. I told her what you guys were saying so I think she is gonna put in the B18 and sell the B16 to a friend of hers with a Civic. Just was weird thought I would ask

Update

Post by JDMJedi » December 27, 2006

Never mind guys. My sister just called me and told me she took the thing to an acura dealership to get the engine changed out and instead bought a TSX. I couldn't belive it, but hey she just got a way cooler car. That is an accord type r in japan right. Any ideas that I can pass on to her for stuff to do.
