I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

what is interchangeable on these engines? i mean between a non-vtec to a vtec... there is a good chance i need to rebuild the bottom end of my car and im looking for oem parts that would work... i would perfer it over putting a new engine in again... any experience or help is greatly appretiated... im just trying to get the car back into a good condition... damn it why of all times did this have to happen...

I'm sure pretty much anything. Lots of factors to consider though, like OBD and what not. Also, is your car wired for vtec? If not, you'll need to change the wiring harness. IMO just try and find a low mileage d16y7 out of a 96-00 DX, they are cheap, and stout, just make sure you keep an eye on the oil.. It is a Honda. But i'll away have respect for the y7, mine took quite a lot of boosted beating, with very rare oil changes (back in my poor days).

you can get a d16y8 for a few hundred bucks...you just gotta look.

the way i see it is if your gonna spend all this money on oem parts...you could get a complete low mileage motor(just the motor since you dont need anything else becuase the EX's come with the D16y8 ) anyway... find a salvage yard around your area they can be a gold mine if they let you search it.

well the reason i asked was considering theis is the second time ive done this i was considering a mini me d series build... my current engine is from the Ex model and i was thinking it would be way cheaper to get a Lx motor then the Ex motor... either way it needs to get fixed no matter how its done but if i were to do the mini me i wouldnt have to wire anything as it already has everything in it...
