I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Racing Lagoon: Racing RPG

Post by Zero » April 18, 2007

has any one else played this awesome game? its the only Squaresoft made racing game and its more tuner friendly then any game to date... ive never been able to do engine/chassis/shell swaps between cars... it reminds me of that tokyo racing game with the whole if you get flashed from behind or you flash them you go into a race but if you win you get the option to get any of their parts on that car and if you lose they can do the same... awkwardly though they dont take much of any thing from you but its always from your engine upgrades... and you have to race a number times with a part inorder to have it LVed up so you have more room to put modifications on it...

you start out with a 86-Levin but you can do damn near anything with this car... i have the option of converting the chassis to FF or 4WD and depenting on the chassis you can get it MR or if its not FR you can get it that way... the engine/chassis/shell can be from any car you choose and each this has it own weight that you have to take into account inorder to achive the best power to weight ratio (in game its actually Kg/ps ratio)...

the shell can be lightened with FRP doors and hood and maybe more (i havent gotten that far into the game)

will post more when i can i need to go work work work!!

sorry for the teaser >_<

its a Japanese only game unfortunately and was released for Playstation One...

and if i refer to "ps" im talking about hp...

now continuing where i left off...

because the game is an RPG you have to race the car so many times with the parts you wish to upgrade to unlock more slots so you can add things...
for example when your engine/chassis/shell is at level 1 you have to race 3 times to get to level 2 and then 6 times to level 3 and then 10 to level 4 and so on...

each and every race counts weither you win or lose twards the engine/chassis/shell and its level... you can earn cash to buy parts or take parts and sell them... also the races you win earn you reward points which is what is used to "take" the parts you want from the guy you beat. its more like Respect points cause usually the faster the car you beat the more you get...

oh and NONE of the cars have their real names but its very apparent what each car is and what motor it supposed to be for example:

86 Levin is (86-LEV)
86 trueno is (86-Thunder)
SR20-t motor is (S20R-T)
Civic is (CVC)
Integra is (GRA)
B16A is (BA16)

the names arent full but if your any kind of car buff youll get the idea... unfortunately i have no idea whats going on in the story but im haveing fun with the tuning idea... the driving on the other hand isnt as good as id hope cause if you hit other cars or the wall you lose a good chunk of speed and bounce damn near a car length away... but you can do the same to the opposition if you make them hit you from the behind area... but that is expected of a game made for the PSone... also you can drift to some degree but i havent tried much harder from fear of losing lol

my car as of right now is sitting on a Levin chassis with a Trueno body and a SR20-T motor (this motor had a higher base ps then the SR20 motor)...

you can max out your engine/chassis/shell but once you do you only get that many slots to do the engine mods your going for...

your engine can get mods like intake, Exahust, ECU, port and polish, high compression, low compression, Super charger, Turbo, Bore up, a detune, Flywheel and possibly more

your chassis can get a GPS, Tires, Rims, Shocks, strut bar, manual trans, a weight drop, steering upgrade and prolly some more but i cant think of them atm...

your shell can get paint, team sticker, wings, body kits, FRP doors, FRP hood, under panel, and prolly more but im not sure...

ill take pictures tonight and post them up tomorrow!
