1. i cleaned it with some water and soap, then dryed it with a towel. if i had some mineral spirits around i would have used that, but i didn't.
2. i masked off the tips, i didn't want them painted, i masked them right where it looks like its welded.
3. i sprayed it with some flat black enamel paint, let it dry, then flipped it over.
4. untaped everything, then hit it with some sandpaper on the tips where it was blackened with exhaust.
5. whipped out some mothers aluminum polish and went to town on the tips.
