I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Life progressing...

Post by 77 » November 20, 2007

I don't post much. Most of my direct friends that were on this site have left. I have sporatic internet time when I check my e-mail, here, ClubFR and ZipTied. I don't use AIM anymore, but I still have it. This is mostly because I "upgraded" to Vista, which shitted out my PC internet until today. I can't really blame Vista, it's because I blow at computers.

I have a job at a BMW dealership. It used to be in a building with a lot of other franchises, but has been it's own location for longer than I've worked there. Which brings me to another point; I've worked there for nearly a year. I haven't worked at a single place that long since my job in High School. It's also my first job in the "auto industry". The best part is I work in sales, but never ever have to talk to customers. I was always nervous about working with cars professionally, afraid that it would end up sucking and ruining my passion. It hasn't, I have a great boss (who probably makes my job as cool as it is). I can comment on SMG and how the 335i is better than the E46 M3 and about how the upcoming 135i and V8 M3 are going to be awesome driving back to back. I have the opportunity to go deeper into the business, which I think I may take.

I'm also going back to school. Yeah, I'm not in college right now. No, it's not because I don't know what I want to do. I got out because I wasn't doing it right, and it was killing me. This year the people I graduated High School with will be graduating college. They'll get jobs and get married and die. Who fuckin' cares. I now know the people I need to know in order to get to the places I want to be and do the things I want to do. It's been said that my generation doesn't want to work looking forward to retirement. We want to work at a job that feels like retirement. Fuckin' right we do. Who wouldn't? Do I want to make a shit ton of money? Sure, but I don't need to. The question is, what would I spend my money on if I had too much of it? Sports cars, racing them, endurance racing them to be specific.

I left High School wanting a degree in Aerodynamic Engineering. I still want that, but the real drive is to understand what people do to advance the performance of sports cars. I have a buddy who is a Mechanical Engineering major. He showed me one of the programs he uses; it's awesome. There's tons of these programs, and I want to learn how to use them.

I also want to learn how to physically fabricate the parts. Weld, manipulate metal, use chemicals and exotic materials. I would also like to learn the ways of electical voodoo, wiring, random horseshit. Painting cars, powdercoating and such would be nice to know as well.

So, that's where I'm at in life. I work a shit load, spend a little time at the shop with Jeff (too little), and spend the rest of the time with my sometimes understanding girlfriend. Lucky for me everyone in my life, including myself, is healthy, relieving me of that added stress. I hope everyone else here is doing well, it appears so, and I hope everyone feels they're progressing through life as happily as I feel I am.

Took me a little while, but I'm a more mature person now. Wish I had figured this out when I was Jeff's age. Oh well, I'm happy with where I am now, and I'm the person I am because of my past.

You know what. I had about two pages worth of my life written out here, and when I finished writing I stared at it and said to myself, "What's the point?" I then continued to delete it in a fraction of a second. No one would have read it, and if someone did read it, it changes nothing in my life.

It's true that life is progressing, but it feels like it is leaving me behind.

we can all feel overwhelmed that life is changing at speeds some of us cannot keep up with. For me, going to college and leaving the familiarity of my home town, and all of my childhood friends was a big change. But looking back, its been a change for the better.
