I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain
'the roof rack' trend?
Re: 'the roof rack' trend?
Yeah! Installing a feature that you rarely use simply because you like the way it looks isn't what modifying cars is all about!
What's the point in making your car so low that you have to drive carefully on the street just because racing cars that drive on perfect tarmac are that low and look awesome. What's the point in putting FIA certified fixed seats in your car when you commute in it and really would benefit from a reclinable seats with a more relaxed driving position? Why drive your caged-to-specifications track car on the road just because it is still registered and you want to drive it more than just at events all season.
Sillyness.

Roof racks are hell for aerodynamics. Especially cross winds. Even without a bike or board on the roof. They're also hell when you drive into the garage with your bike still up there.
John...if you get one make sure you get locks if you put a snowboard mount on plus use a cable. I know of at least 4 boards taken off of roof racks at Seven Springs while people were getting lift tickets or something to eat. Even with locks.

Re: 'the roof rack' trend?
i agree and thats why my car isnt slammed, i have reclineable Recaros, and i dont have a Track specific car that i need to drive more then at the track. My Tein Basic feel better and actually do what they are supposed to do when they arent slammed.77 wrote:Yeah! Its gay unless they use it.
Has anyone ever sat on top of the bike on the rack while the car is moving?

Re: 'the roof rack' trend?
Yes, Sean. You have to put your feet on the crossmembers of the rack because the clamps to the downtube aren't enough to hold you if you lose your balance.
Re: 'the roof rack' trend?
i see them everywhere especially now that its getting nice out
Re: 'the roof rack' trend?
well i opted for the older 'sst' yakima rack because its a hell of a lot cheaper then the new Q series.
problem is its a bastard to find the Y clips but i managed to find a company on amazon that had 2 sets of the y3 clips that i needed for the 'custom' install on my sube. and they were only $20 shipped for all 4. crazy price seeing the fact they are asking 25 ship for 2 Q clips.
i also found a brand new set of the sst towers for $5 shipping!! now all i need is the load bars and whatever mounts, bike and snowboard. the board one can wait for next winter. i have a bike rack mount im watching on ebay comes with 2 carriers and a great price so i got my fingers crossed on that. also plan on doing the 38" fairing and probably cut the ends of the bars off to fit flush with the ends of the towers once the caps are on. possibly?
my setup should put the clips on the INSIDE of the rain stripping like so:
where as the newer Q clip style puts it over the weather striping (i dont care for this, not as clean)

Re: 'the roof rack' trend?
hopefully i will be getting a yakima rack pretty soon to toss up my board in the winter and my gt and dyno during the summer.
i fucking love my bikes. they arent that bad to ride around on. more of a work out and then when you feel like just screwing around on your way to something, you can
