Just as the topic says, when you see a someone flying a southern/rebel, what do you think it stands for?

racism or "southern pride"?

It stands for the region, not racism. Ask anyone who sports it and they'll tell you it's for southern pride.

I did, on honda tech... and people from the area said it was for racism.

Not to mention, how do you explain people born and raised in the north who sport it? Pride for... the... south... where they don't live... and have never been?

I think it really depends on who you ask. Most rednecks,skins,kkk,aryan nation and other white power groups adopted it as a racial statment. Almost like the swastika. The swastika was a symbol of peace. It was revered by the Jews, Christians, Africans, Native Americans, Chinese, Japanese, Tibetans, Indians, Occultists and the list goes on and on. It could be the most universal symbol of life and luck that humanity has ever known. Then hitler decided to claim it for his own personal uses and now it stands as a symbol of hatred. Back to the main topic. It's about 50/50 on people from the south. Some see it as the flag that the confederate troops flew in the war and others see it in the wrong way. Look at the Georgia state flag it is a confederate battle flag w/ some things added to it and thats about it. Untill 2001 they passed a vote for a new design and minimized the use of the confederate battle flag.
