I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Lightning oem security

Post by munster » April 02, 2005

We pulled my friend's Lightning out of storage yesterday...battery was dead. Pick up a new battery and drop it in. Truck would just crank and crank and wouldn't get fuel. Thought it was bad gas, water in the tank, faulty fuel pump, etc.

It was the security system. I was pretty impressed that an oem alarm has a fuel cutoff, but it's stupid because there's no way for the owner to override it. Has to be done at a Ford dealership. Doesn't help us when we can't move the truck to get it there.

All we wanted to do was blow the tires off...stupid winter storage.

update: towed it away today to get the key reflashed. The codes were cleared, but when the key was put into the ignition it brough the code back up.

It was under warranty.

The security system enabled the fuel cutoff because the system was without power for a long time. The battery went totally dead.

someone needs to find the short in their circuitry if it went dead just from sitting for winter.

We don't know what drained it, but oh well. Done now.

The problem was actually due to a short in the aftermarket remote starter. The remote starter was disconnected, keys were programmed, codes were erased and everything is fine now.. remote starters are such a bitch...def not worth the money.
