I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

The hatch.. A proper intoduction.

Post by tenchu » May 01, 2005

Hello everyone on thejdm, my name is Josh, but most of you know me as tenchu, I drive a 1995 Honda Civic DX hatchback. This car has been from hell and back, and i'm trying to turn a beat tow civic into a jdm work of art.

When I purchaced my `95 Honda Civic the car was far from mint. The previous owner of this car didn't exactly have is marbles all in the bag. Installed on my hatch was a U-Haul trailer hitch, a mangled hood from hood surfing, a huge dent in the rear quarter panel from a trailer, and severe passenger side damage. The cause of the passenger side damage is unknown, but it was severe.

When my this car's time came to get fixed, it took a lot of work. First purchaced was a used door, followed by a new Honda OEM fender, and finnally a brand new unibody piece from Honda. This car was in sorry shape, the A-pillar was bent, the car was taken apart and never put back together, and the car was in overall rough shape, but i gave it a chance.

After three and a half long weeks at Golf Avenue Auto Body in Racine, WI, the passenger side was finnally up to par, straight, safe, and strong. This cars journey is far from complete, but it may one day be a well known import craze, to the point where nobody will ever know she was down in the pits at one point in time.

Lastly, as you proceed to the pictures, i'm sure you will all notice that the car is only half blue, this is a long story, but in attempt to prevent questions, I will explain. When I first bought this car, I was too anxious to buy it, that I didn't properly inspect it. The previous owner told me the passenger door didn't open, so I didn't even try to open it, but boy do I wish I did. When I took this `95 Civic to Golf, the first thing they did was take the door off, it opened, but it fell to the ground, it was accually semi-funny to watch. Under the mangled door, was not on the other hand, so funny. When we got this far into the inspection, I realized the repairs were going to not only cost more, but take much longer than throwing on a few body panels and spraying that yummy blue candy coat. As soon as I left the shop, I proceeded to look for my temp-car hunt, but I didn't want to waste my money on a car I didn't like, so I went on a hunt for a specific car, a Nissan 240sx. After telling a few of my friends to keep there eyes peeled, I found a 1989 Nissan 240sx for $1000 about 3 days after I started the hunt. I jumped on the purchace, fell in love with the car, and considered moving on to the 240sx after the hatch was completed. About 3 weeks into the project, money was at a bit of a standstill due to my loss of a job, so the hatch was sitting at the shop till I could afford to pay for the rest of the parts, and all the paint. But then, the worst happened, my `89 240sx blew the #4 piston rod through the block, an un-fixable damage. Since I didn't have the money for a swap, and it wasn't a simple fix, I was forced to sell the 240sx to whoever came to me with money first, which just so happened to only be $200. At this time, it was still mid-winter in Wisconsin, and the trucks were dumping salt on the roads and I needed to pull that hatch back out so I could get to school, and when a new job came up, to work. The passenger side was all bare metal and primer, which would not hold up in a Wisconsin winter. I didn't have the cash for the hood, rear bumper, or any dent work on the remainder of the car, so we finished the passenger side, spray it it quick, and get the baby rolling. I've since gotten a new job and UPS and am saving up to buy all the parts before I put my car back into the shop, as to prevent this from happening again. Now you know the single sided spray story, enjoy!
