I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

After losing the lip, and now this, I think it's a sign you should concentrate more on go and less on show. *shrug* just my opinion. I know personally I just dont' care about door dings etc. I still do my best to park somewhere it won't happen but... it always does. The more money you spend on making it pretty, the more it pisses you off when it gets fucked up. I'd rather just concentrate on making it faster. Eventually it gets to a point, either you're going to make a pretty show car that you never drive, or it's going to be in the shop constantly to keep it show quality (so you won't get to drive it anyways). So might as well make it fast.
Hmm, that's a pretty big ass ding, dontcha think?
door dings are one thing, this is worse than that. If I were Jon I'd be pissed too.
What does the size of the "ding" matter? It's the same concept. Either you're show quality or you aren't, and you aren't going to be show quality with a daily driver. It's just a fact shit happens, and "dings" no matter how small ruin a show car.kotomile wrote:

I didn't say he shouldn't be pissed, I said he should just do the engine work first, and stop spending money on visuals that clearly are easily fucked up. It's a hell of a lot harder for someone else to ruin your engine unintentionally than it is for them to mess up the body. Hell, it's a hell of a lot harder for them to mess up the engine intentionally if you have a gas cap lock there's not a whole lot they can do without you noticing.

"dude the exhaust on that maserati sounds like it is gonna beat you up, screw your mom, and take your chick away. That thing is mean!!!"
The size of the ding matters a lot. Most people wouldn't notice a ding from a shopping cart. Everyone and their mother will notice a "ding" the size of the one on goldy, and unless their just plain ghetto, they will be embarrased of it.
A lot of people here build cars that look really, really nice. Are you saying that if something unfortunate happens that they should throw their arms up in the air and go "well, that's it, no more cosmetics, I got a dent, time to forget about the body!"
When 3rdgenCRX's car got hit, did he let the body go to shit and only concentrate on the engine? No. Would Jonas have stopped caring about the appearance of Sunshine (RIP) had it been hit? Unlikely. Jon daily drives a show car. He knows what he's getting into, and for doing it he has earned our respect and admiration (or at least Goldy has

*shrug* he keeps talking about engine, and personally that'd be my first and foremost goal. As I said, the body will always continually get fucked up, just a fact of driving the car. That's one of the main reasons they're such a money pit (assuming you try to keep up with it). Where as the engine will be good for 10 years easily if you do any sort of maintenance on it at all. Let me know the next time you have a paint job/body that stays flawless for 10 years and I'll retract my thoughts on the fact that it's a waste to keep dumping money into it instead of the engine he keeps talking about.kotomile wrote:The size of the ding matters a lot. I'd rather have a huge dent in a 10 second car than a flawless 17 second car, apparently I'm in the minority on this board though.
im building a show car. a motor is on my list but as far as im concerned it can wait. i cant stand to look at my rear 1/4 panel caved in.

If you're building a show car then buy a daily driver dude. What do you think is going to happen parking it in lots? Hell... parking it anywhere except locked in your own garage?.saint wrote:im building a show car. a motor is on my list but as far as im concerned it can wait. i cant stand to look at my rear 1/4 panel caved in.
