I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Turbo or NA

Post by Shepler » July 21, 2005

I need help to deceide whether or not to turbo my car. I have a 1994 Acura Integra GS-R with the stock engine in it and it has a shit-load of miles on it... On the other hand I have a turbo Type R engine being held for me that is turbocharged. My engine now puts out a weak 187 hp at the wheels and I need more so... I found a 2.2 Liter big bore kit and wanted to make a stroker but, this will only produce 350 hp at the wheels. The Type R engine make almost 400 hp at 16 psi of boost and can run to 26 psi which makes almost 520 at the wheels... Both motors would be a radical change so which direction should I go?

i'm just the kinda man that loves a car that han rip with out the aid of a turbo. dont get me wrong i love the sound of a turbo spooling and the blow-off valve releasing all that air, but just hearing a 12+ compression moster screaming past me makes my balls clinch in delight

Few things urk me about this post.

1. You wont even touch 300whp with a 2.2 b18c all motor engine.
2. A turbo B18c5? Seems like a strange choice of engine to turbocharge. And even stranger that you would even consider the all motor choice over this crazy type r engine.

meh, if any of this is true why would you turn down the turbo motor?

3. why the members rides section?

yes this is very strange. 350n/a whp on a 2.2 stroked b18? Id like to see some charts. I think you should just run the 26 psi to the type r motor and blow it all to hell, but that 520whp would be so sweet for those few seconds. just twin turbo it, which would double the power to 1040whp. JK man good luck.

turbo typeR? stupid for even wanting to build it... you'd have to replace most of what makes it an R...

unless it's a b16b with it's superb geometry, but those engines are pretty hard to come by and expensive as well...

rebuild and boost the GS-R :)

Check out DontBlink's turbo R. BoostedITR41 has a kickass turbo R too. Vtecdood has a C5 block as well. Dontblink and vtecdood are bored ans sleeved, but you get the point.

yeah... block = altered...

so why not get a GSR shortblock to mod and if you really want the more extreme cams etc... slap a type R head on it...

should still be cheaper than modding the c5?

don't get me wrong: to each his/her own, but I'm thinking about one of 5 engines to put in my EK sometime next year (after handling / exteriour and especially BRAKE upgrades all to be done this year) and those will be

b16a Turbo
b18c Turbo (GSR)
b16b
b18c (typeR)
k20a (typeR)

not feeling hybrid engines at all, else a K24/K20 and a B20/b16 would also be in the list :)

Agreed [moved]

I definately won't knock DontBlink's or ITR41's cars, because they > me, but starting from scratch I can't see much justification for using a C5 for boost, it's a badass NA motor and in order to boost it you end up altering or removing the very things that distinguish the C5 from the C1. Just obtain and boost a C1.
