I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Anyone swap the alternator in an EK before?

Post by sfc » September 09, 2005

Ya, don't you love when I post these here? (I sitll say we have too many sub-forums for our own good). That being said, anyone here ever pull an alternator from an EK? If so, how the fuck did you get it out of the engine bay? Hanes manual says to pull the drivers side axle out... I *REALLY* don't want to do this if I dont' have to... and looking at my engine bay that still doesn't look like it's going to create enough room. Someone anyone? I have a nice old alternator just rolling around in my engine bay right now ... cars up on blocks anyways since the IACV I ordered was the wrong one!@##@ and the new one won't be here till next tuesday (fuck 2 weeks downtime on my DD).

well....they say you have to pull the axle for the DA too, but here are some threads from g2ic about how to do it on a DA, it may help you with your EK

Ya, master cylinder will probably be it... is that bitch going to spew brake fluid if I remove the brake lines from teh master cylinder? IE: Am I going to have to drain the whole system before I do this? It probably needs to be replaced anyways, but I'd rather do it over the winter downtime if possible.

drop it from the bottom rather then removing the M/C

I wish. The problem with that is it means I have to remove the knuckle? from the axle so it can drop down out of the way. Getting that end nut off==not gonna happen. I tried repeatedly with a breaker bar, the only way it's coming off is with an impact wrench, which I don't currently have, and don't have moneyz to buy.

SO, that being said, do I need to drain the fluid before I pull the master cylinder? Looking at it I would assume yes... unless the brake lines actually have to plug in like a nipple or something, and it won't flow unless they're inserted...

apparently I'm supposed to syphon the bitch out before I pull the master cylinder *yey* Time to go buy a syphon and some new brake fluid. Guess I'll just buy some steel braded brake lines since the system is going to be emptied anyways.
