I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

So I'm still getting a CEL :/

Post by sfc » September 26, 2005

Swapped out the IACV, still getting this CEL. NOT TOO HAPPY! What's really odd is, after having the ECU pulled for like a day, I plugged it back in, drove around last night. I drove around for a good 30 minutes, got it heated up all the way, let it idle, it was fine. I mean, I was idling for a good 3-5 minutes at several stoplights last night, no issues. Then today, on the way to work, I was idling for MAYBE 45 seconds, and the CEL kicked in, and then I got the loopy throttle. I'm thinking that my only option left is to replace the ECU. Anyone else have any ideas?

Symptoms again:

Once the car is up to temp, when idling at say a stoplight, the idle will kind of fluxuate up and down in a 100rpm range, then all the sudden it will jump about 400 rpm, and the CEL will kick in. Then, if I bring the revs up to ~2k, it'll just go nuts surging and dropping. Not only that, when driving at any speed, if I let off the gas, it feels like the car is driving through about an inch of tar, you can just feel a serious decel.

I'm really leaning towards ECU at this point because I really don't see what else would be causing this.

505 if I remember right, I'd have to look again. It referred to the idle system, but didn't actually specify WHAT in the idle system.

well, technically it probably is. Not the original motor from the car. But it's still a b16 in an 00 civic si. I think it's obd1 instead of obd2, but I've had it for over a year and put probably 30k miles on it without issue before.

hmmm thats a tough one, i mean i doubt its the ECU since the problem seems a little intermittent, i would lean towards something else but its hard to say. how long ago did the problem start?

can't even say for sure. Probably month or two ago. I'm still leaning towards it started being a bitch when I hooked up an o2 guage, but I removed that quite a while ago and it's still being a bitch. Plus I can't remember if it was doing it before that or not.
