I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

Another Question suggestion........

Post by spdyslvrEX » October 14, 2005

Hey guys, I'm kind of in a delima. My motor has 100,000 miles on it. I have 2 options,

Option 1: K20 Swap. But that is going to take longer and I will probably never save the money

Option 2: Turbo the 1.7SOHC that I have and add a few engine upgrades. i.e. Pulley, new head, maybe new piston rings. and definately a new exhaust. Tell me what you guys think.
By the way keep in mind my wife is 2-3 months pregnant. However I still do get an allowance. Ha Ha....... :own:

lets move this to engine tech someone (since i dont have mod capability here in this forum). as that is where it is more fitting to be.

as for your options, it depends on what your goals are for the car, personally i would care more about my pregnant wife and her well being then turboing my civic but yeah....anyways

if you DO turbo your 1.7, depending on how much boost you want to run then you may want to rebuild the motor with lower compression internals as they allow more "room for error" (its not a requirement but it allows for you to not have to tune as much and not have to worry about detonation as much). However if you want to have more power, spool faster you can actually raise compression a little bit, however this requires FAR more tuning to make sure that your car is running correctly. Hmmm, as far as the pulley situation, we DID have a thread on here that kinda turned into a pissing match, from everything i have seen, my PERSONAL OPINION is that on a turbo motor, since you already have oil issues running a lighter crank pulley will damage the oil pump, however on an N/A motor you wont see the same issue. AGAIN THAT IS ONLY MY HYPOTHESIS GIVEN ALL THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE ON AFTERMARKET CRANK PULLEYS. Now, as for head work, head work is always great, however you need to remeber polishing is not necessairly a good thing, however PORTING is. If you do port and/or port and polish your head make sure you get your intake and exhaust ports port matched to your IM/EM for good flow. turbo cams will also help you out.....

anywho 8)
