I'm excited to announce that thejdm is now updated to the latest phpbb 3.2 software. You may notice the site is now mobile friendly but with the upgrade comes some hiccups. theGarage, theGallery, theArcade are no longer supported. In due time the developers should be working to release the modifications to work on the new software. #LetsMakeForumsGreatAgain

thermostat help

Post by Secret Squirrel » October 30, 2005

ok, i have a buddy who has the option to buy a 180 degree F thermostat or a 192 degree thermostat. I want to kno which one is better. I say the hotter one, he says the colder one.

my arguement:

a hotter thermostat will make the engine run hotter which will have less heat transfer from the explosion in the cylinder. there fore since less energy is being turned into heat more of the energy from the explosion will be turned into work creating more power. and i understand it wont be anything noticable and there is prolly risks of running the motor hoter wich out weigh the benifites.

any suggestions? does my post make sense?

the cooler one, i follow your logic but it is flawed. here is why the cooler one is better, the thermostat will open sooner, thus turning on the fan sooner, thus keeping the motor at a cooler overall temperature

i'd go with the colder one also, i dont have a good reason except my car was running pretty hot with the stock radiator and seemed a bit laggy, so i put an integra gsr radiator in it and it felt alot better/cooler. i think cooler is better.

to a degree cooler is better, too cool and the engine will not perform properly

yea...but in theory im correct?

cuz all the engine is is an air pump. so if more of the chemical reaciton is turned into work and less into heat there would be more power, so runing hotter temps means less heat loss, which means more chemcical energy bing turned into usable work

wow... a tardtastical question. you do know that once your thermostat opens up it stays open for the most part. so its just initial temp that it starts doing its work.

yes but if ur thermo opens at 180, ur core temp is gunna stay right around there...but if it opens at 192 then core temp is gunna be higher
